Neil Young Reunites with Crazy Horse for 'Love Earth Tour' in Tennessee

Neil young, crazy Horse has reunited with his longtime backing band Crazy Horse for the 'Love Earth Tour', marking their first tour together in a decade. On Thursday, May 9, 2024, the legendary musician and his band performed a 17-song set with a double encore at the FirstBank Amphitheater in Franklin, Tennessee, near Nashville.

The concert featured a rare performance of"Sedan Delivery", a song that hasn't been played live in over a decade. The song, which first appeared on the 1979 albumRust Never Sleeps, was played as the third song of the second encore. According toSugar Mountain, Neil Young's setlist database, the last time"Sedan Delivery"was performed was on August 7, 2013, at the Oslo Spektrum in Oslo, Norway.

The setlist also included classic hits such as "Cortez The Killer", "Cinnamon Girl", "Like A Hurricane", and "Heart Of Gold". The band played with energy and enthusiasm throughout the night, with young, crazy, since Young's guitar playing being particularly impressive despite his admission of playing with arthritis in his hand.

The encore performances were a highlight of the evening. After closing the main set with "Hey Hey, My My (Into The Black)", the band returned for an encore of "Roll Another Number (For The Road)". They then came back out for a second encore, playing "Danger Bird", "Don't Cry No Tears", and the rare "Sedan Delivery".

Throughout his career, Neil Young has been a passionate advocate for environmental causes. The 'Love Earth Tour' continues this tradition, featuring a "LOVE EARTH Village" where local environmental organizations, hand-picked by Young, set up tents and tables to chat with fans about their missions. Young also changed the menu for the venue's offerings, opting for more eco-friendly options.

Young addressed the crowd, saying, "How you doin' out there? Nice to see you... What a beautiful place. You guys are very lucky to have this place." On a handout at the venue, he also encouraged fans to "Support your friends, support your land, and support the people that want to care for the land. The revolution starts with us. The revolution starts with you."

The 'Love Earth Tour' kicked off on April 24 in San Diego and will continue with upcoming stops in Virginia, New Jersey, New York, and more. The tour features Neil Young joined by bassist Billy Talbot, drummer Ralph Molina, and new guitarist Micah Nelson, who took over for the band's previous guitarist Nils Lofgren earlier this year. Young also released a new album with Crazy Horse, "Fu", on April 25, featuring nine rock 'n' roll tracks.

The reunion of Neil Young and Crazy Horse for the 'Love Earth Tour' marks a significant moment for fans who have waited a decade to see them perform together again. With a mix of classic hits, rare performances, and a focus on environmental activism, the tour promises to be a memorable experience. The next stop is on May 11, 2024, at Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, Virginia.
