Who are considered the most reputable game reviewers nowadays?

I'm out of the loop and don't know which companies to trust for game reviews anymore. I know IGN was great back in the day, but I really don't pay attention to that stuff anymore.

Ultimately yes but I hate wasting money on games I end up not liking.

I think ACG is the best.

Metacritic.

Now just hear me out for a second I'm not a complete lunatic. You skip the paid reviewers and go to the user reviews, you ignore all the 10s and 0s, you find yourself some solid 8-4 score user reviews and you read through them. The negative reviews are actually the most helpful here, you read enough to find common complaints and ask yourself, "do I care about this? Will this affect my enjoyment?" And you can use that to help make a judgement call.

Don't trust any of them.
Watch gameplay footages from a few different youtubers and then decide based on what you have seen.

Zero punctuation. If yahtzee doesn't absolutely shit on a game, it's prbly good. If he's outright positive, it's prbly gold

I gave up on reviews. They're too hyperbolic. Especially youtubers.

Everything is either amazing and flawless or garbage. When thats almost never the case.

Days Gone got horrible reviews, but it's easily one of my favorite games of the generation. If you go look at the reviews its painfully obvious they only played a bit of the game.

These days i mostly go by word of mouth (which you have to take with a massive grain of salt, gamers are more hyperbolic than the reviewers at times) and by watching a bit of gameplay footage without commentary.

SkillUp, Angry Joe, ACG and Yong Yea, of course this is all my opinion, but I find that they have similar taste in games as I do and I haven’t been led astray by them yet. Just find some YouTube reviewers who have similar taste in games to you.

I like Skillup. I personally disagree with him on quite a few games, but I feel that he’s one of the most objective reviewers out there. Others i watch are Easy Allies and IGN(absolutely do not go by their reviews tho)

I mainly just trust my gut sometimes now. IGN wasn't the best back then either especially their Metro reviews

I always used to like the reviews from Game Trailers back in the day... The guys from there went on to become EZallies and personally i find there reviews just as good.

Watching streams and actual gameplay then deciding if it’s good is what I usually do

I usually go with Gameranx on Youtube, I've consistently agreed with their thoughts on games that I ended up buying over the years.

I'll second this. They're pretty fair-minded and Jake and the rest make a good crew.

I usually just listen to my streamers/youtubers. If i like their content, chances are i like the same games

u/Jensen_Games avatar

I always tend to listen to ACG and Gameranx on YouTube.

I check Steam reviews. Having overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam is usually a good indicator, and you can read the negative reviews to see what issues there are.

I honestly take the average between the crotch and the users on meta critic, and base it off that. Unless of course the game has been review bombed.

Edit - meant critics..

I just check with youtubers like Dreamcast guy Yong Yeah. I don’t trust any of the bigger internet sites.

Reddit is generally pretty good.

IGN.

Youtubers( not all but I like a few ). I watch AngryJoe.

watch a gameplay if you're unsure, I don't trust any review in general but if you really want to go that route you could read more than just one and balance them out to see the average opinion.

SwitchUp for Switch games obviously. SkillUp had lenghty reviews but his taste differs from mine. ACG is spot on most of the time.

Their reviews are around 15 to 20 minutes long and go in depth on several parts of the games they play

Worth A Buy is funny sometimes but wouldn't call him a good reviewer. His thoughts on AAA Games are pretty accurate sometimes.

People on here hate IGN because of what I can only assume is jealousy…however…all game reviews are just opinions, find someone with similar taste and follow them

I trust my friends more than anyone. The reason is because I know their tastes and likes/dislikes.

My personal fav is zero punctuation, I don't even watch them for the reviews, I only watch them because the videos are so fun to watch
