Drew Barrymore Reacts to Video of Her Tonight Show Debut at Age 7 — and Screaming at Johnny Carson

Drew Barrymore is taking a trip down memory lane. 

During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on May 16, the actress, 49, reacted to a video of herself making her Tonight Show debut when she was just 7 years old. 

"I did the The Tonight Show for the first time in 1982," Barrymore told current host Jimmy Fallon. "That's so crazy, with Johnny Carson."

Fallon, 49, then revealed they had a clip of a 7-year-old Barrymore making her debut.

"No!" said Barrymore in shock.

In the throwback video, former host, the late Johnny Carson, asked Barrymore to “give me a scream.” 

“Guys, ready?” smiled Barrymore, before she belted out a high-pitched wail.

“That’s a good scream,” said Carson. “Have you always been able to do that?”

“I practiced so much at home that I was able to do it,” the actress responded. “So the other day I screamed my throat off. When I got home, I was sweating. I need to take a shower badly. I was filthy!” Barrymore added to huge laughs from the video. 

As the video played out, Barrymore could be seen laughing, looking emotional and shaking her head.

“What are you doing? Who is that person? It is so charming,” current host Fallon noted. “That is so charming, that person. And look at what a great woman you’ve become. That little baby, come on.”

“You know what’s so wild when I look at that,” said Barrymore. “My legs don’t touch the ground. Like we are all growing up together. I’m 49 years old and I’m like, I’m just growing up with everyone. And my legs touched the ground now!” she added with a smile and shocked expression as she grabbed Fallon’s hand.

The Charlie's Angels star starred in E.T. at the age of 7, prompting her appearance on the talk show in the 80's. She shared earlier this week in an interview with PEOPLE that she thought of E.T. as her "first imaginary friend" during the filming of the iconic movie.

“I think E.T. was definitely, sort of, my first imaginary friend that I also knew wasn't real,” she recalled. “I fully understood, but I think we need to project a matter of a belief system in things. Whether it's imaginary or very real and tangible, it's part of a survival mechanism, as well as just an absolute pleasure to identify things that make us feel good, that we feel like believe in us, like we believe in them.”

Dee Wallace, who played Barrymore's mom in the film also revealed that the crew would even do things to keep the E.T dream "alive" for Barrymore at the time.

"We found you over there just talking away to E.T. and so we let director Steven [Spielberg] know," Wallace remembered. "And so Steven, from that time on, appointed two guys to keep E.T. 'alive' so whenever you came over to talk to him, he could react to you."

E.T. celebrates its 42nd anniversary on December 9 this year.
