Speaking about Arquette’s final hours, the source added: “The whole family rallied around her. And in the end they were always there to support her. Everyone knew [death] was imminent. It was a matter of time.”

Arquette appeared in films such as Pulp Fiction and The Wedding Singer and TV shows like Friends and Californication.

A previously issued press release written by Patricia – which suggested that Arquette returned to using male pronouns by the time of death – read: “He died as he lived, on his own terms. Our brother Robert, who became our brother Alexis, who became our sister Alexis, who became our brother Alexis, passed this morning September 11, at 12:32 am.”

“I am immensely grateful that it was fast and painless. It was an incredibly moving experience and I am humbled and grateful to have been able to have been with him as he began his journey onward. Thank you, Alexis, I love you and will love you always.”
