Neil Gaiman has shared some exciting news about Good Omens season three.

After it was revealed last year that the third season would be the last for David Tennant and Michael Sheen's comedy series, creator Neil Gaiman went to work on the new episodes.

In a new interview with Deadline, he discussed the overall slowdown in drama commissions when he revealed the timeline for Good Omens' production.

"I’m writing Good Omens season three, and we start shooting that in January," he explained. "So I’m making stuff. And I’m definitely feeling that, OK, the ship is still sailing. But the boom is over."

There were months of speculation about the future of Gaiman's TV version of Good Omens following the premiere of its second season last summer.

Then, in December, Gaiman confirmed that a third season was in the works and would be the swansong for the angel Aziraphale and his demonic pal, Crowley.

"I'm so happy finally to be able to finish the story [co-author Terry Pratchett] and I plotted in 1989 and in 2006,” Gaiman said at the time.

"Terry was determined that if we made Good Omens for television, we could take the story all the way to the end.

"Season one was all about averting Armageddon, dangerous prophecies and the End of the World. Season two was sweet and gentle, although it may have ended less joyfully than a certain Angel and Demon might have hoped."

The writer then teased what fans can expect from the final season: "Now in season three, we will deal once more with the end of the world. The plans for Armageddon are going wrong. Only Crowley and Aziraphale working together can hope to put it right. And they aren't talking.”

Good Omens is set for some major changes in these final episodes, as series director Douglas Mackinnon bowed out ahead of season three.

The first two seasons of Good Omens are available on Prime Video.
