The area
Address
Neighborhood: Coyoacán
Once you step into Coyoacán (“Land of the Coyotes”) you'll find picturesque parks and cantinas that will transport you back to the colonial era thanks to the brick and stone details of the area. Iconic writers such as Trotsky and great painters like Frida Kahlo seeked refuge and inspiration in this area, and you can see the unique spirit of this neighborhood reflected in its colorful market where nieves, sopes and all kinds of traditional 'antojitos' are a must try. Restaurants and cafés throughout its peaceful paved streets contain traditional but unique murals and decorations, where one can enjoy a mezcal at noon or the best churros with a cup of coffee.

    SMALL WELL DONE MUSEUM
I didn’t do a tour. I went solo. This is a tiny little museum but with a discount and a guide, I think women, in particular, will really appreciate hearing Frida Kahlo’s full story. I had a short time but I really enjoyed it. I didn’t realize how close to death she was her whole life … yet she lived SO MUCH. So ahead of her time.

    Loved it!
Charming little house! A fabulous example of Mexican architecture and also a well maintained glimpse into the tragic life of frida kahlo. Before this I didn’t really know much about the lives of frida kahlo and Diego Rivera. I just knew that they were celebrated icons. Little did I know that they had such interesting lives and this really helped me imagine how they lived and what inspired them. It kind of needs to restoration and a fresh coat of paint as the blue walls are starting to fade.

Beautiful house filled with Kahlo's personal art
This is an absolute MUST VISIT on your Mexico City itinerary. Coated with a vibrant, deep blue, this house was Frida Kahlo childhood home that she then lived most of her life as well, with her twice husband Diego Rivera. Her art is displayed throughout the estate as well as some of her dresses. You get to learn a lot about such an inspiring, contemporary feminist. Make your online reservations days in advance. Also, it’s an extra ~$3 if you want to take pictures.

    Beautifully kept home & gardens
Beautifully kept historic home of Frida Kahlo, the talented Mexican painter. We enjoyed touring her home, gardens & seeing her colorful clothes as well as photographs & some original art by Kahlo. There are excellent descriptions in Spanish & English highlighting pictures, paintings, time line etc.

    Gorgeous despite the crowds
Gorgeous and amazing despite crowds  Frida Kahlo is the most influential Latina visual artist ever, and one of the most influential artists amongst humans ever, really.  Her museum is in the heart of Coyoacan, amidst other beautiful, well preserved, and pricey houses and shops.  The Kahlo museum is reasonably priced but you do have to buy a ticket in advance and for a specific time, and then show up on time.  It is very crowded inside and out, and they expect you to go through quickly - but we never felt hurried along.  Her house, art, and life are all on display and it's honestly an incredible experience that makes you really feel her pain, inspiration, and beauty.  You can see her childhood drawings, infamous painted casts, amazing wardrobe, and every room she inhabited.  There are thorough and informative interpretive panels in every room in both Spanish and English.  After Teotihuacan, this was our favorite part of visiting Ciudad Mexico; seeing this amazing life and amazing art will be a treasured memory for a long time.  Frida’s house-turned-museum is only three blocks from Leon Trotsky’s house, which is a worthwhile and fairly cheap museum stop, too.

A must see in Mexico City
If you have an interest in art, this museum which is actually the artist’s lifelong home is a must visit. You need tickets and they can be purchased online. Warning: this site is not user friendly but getting tickets in advance is required. My wife and I went on a Sunday morning and had 10am tickets which are the first entry times. The museum was not crowded at this time. Be sure to spend some time in the garden and read the postings which are in Spanish and English. If you have questions, guides in the museum are very helpful. The museum is in an interesting neighborhood and there was a very nice art and craft fair about a block away

Good tour guide makes it very interesting.
Well done tour made it very interesting. We enjoyed walking down the Malecon to get there, and then stopping for drinks and appetizers on the way back. Tour itself took about an hour and was an enjoyable culture destination. It's a small garden but well done and an interesting insight into the life and work of an artist who loved Mexico and it's people.

    Just beautiful
Amazing experience to get to know a little more about Frida, her story and art. Beautiful place away from the hustle of Mexico City. You need to buy the tickets in advance - they normally sell out quickly.

A trip into Frida s world
A trip into Frida s world. Her childhood home, her beds, her dresses, stories and passion. Each corner, a different storie. I was mesmerized with her family' s pictures and a glimpse into her reality. Frida was the representation of freedom, even trapped in a sickly body.

    Frida and Diego Highlight
This was without a doubt, the highlight of my trip to Mexico City and it was such a surprise as I really didn't expect much. I was drawn in right at the start by the paintings, the furniture, the explanations, the whole atmosphere of the place. I was gobsmacked as I really didn't know much about Frida and Diego before I went there. You need to purchase your tickets weeks in advance and can't just turn up on the day as it is crowded and only a certain number are let in each 15 minutes and your time is allocated at purchase and you need to be there on time. Well worth it.

I highly recommend visiting the Frida Kahlo museum, and if you’re English it’s worth paying the extra pesos to have an audio guide. The house is beautiful with so many original artifacts and paintings, and it’s a great way to get a feel for the colourful character that Frida Kahlo was. It’s a very popular attraction so to avoid VERY long queues, it’s best to book ahead.

Frida Kahlo is one of my favorite artists, if not favorite. I was sooo looking forward to going here. However, I was waiting in line for hours (BUY TICKETS ONLINE prior to visiting), it was way too crowded inside to actually enjoy anything or take many photos, and barely any of her original artwork is there. It was still cool seeing her house and some of her clothing and such, but not worth the price. It was the most expensive museum I visited in Mexico City (and I visited tons), yet the smallest and most crowded. Unless you're super obsessed with Frida Kahlo, there's lots of better things to do with your time in this huge city (in my opinion).

“La Casa azul” is a must see if you are in CDMX. The museum is designed to make the visitor feel welcome into a private home but still provides valuable information and insight into the life and work of Frida Kahlo and her circle. One must buy a ticket in advance as the number of visitors is carefully controlled for fairly obvious reasons. You will probably want to take a taxi as it is quite a walk from the Métro. Plan to explore historical Coyoacan as well; no need in my opinion to book a tour of this “town within a city.”

You queue whether you have bought a ticket online or not( longer if not though) no shade
Cloak room for large bags, get an audio guide at the same place. Very busy. You have to buy a camera pass if you want to take photos inside. Has a coffee shop and toilets. Building is lovely. Not many of Fridas paintings there though. You can go into her bedroom, kitchen and living rooms. There was an exhibition of her clothes. Staff are all grumpy.
Glad I went but wouldn’t go back. You can’t soak up the atmosphere as it is heaving

Frida Kahlo is an artistic icon that you need to embrace and understand, and visiting this museum will allow you to sumerge into her life. The museum is very eclectic and vibrant, and will allow you to take an intimate look into Frida’s and Diego Rivera’s life. Two tips for you, get your tickets on line and choose the 10 or 10:30 time slots which will allow you to enjoy the museum at your leisure before the crowds arrive. If you dare to show up without a ticket bring your patience with you, we arrived at 10:00 and the wait line to buy tickets had over a 100 people. You have to pay extra to take pictures, do it, you wont regret it!

If you are fan of Frida Kahlo you will love this museum. It gives a fantastic insight into her private life whilst also displaying some of her amazing art pieces.

Be aware that there are very large queues to get into the museum even if you have prebooked tickets. I would recommend gettin there early

Take advantage of the gift shop whilst you are inside as after you leave the team arent very helpful to let you back in to spend your money.

Got there at 8 AM, 2 hours before they opened on a Sunday and the line was already 40 people long. At 9, a literal busload of more people showed up. Gradually the line ahead of me grew as it turned out half of those waiting in line were holding places for larger groups. At 10, a museum worker came around and counted us and announced that they were likely going to run out of tickets... for the day. As in until 5. So, basically the folks who arrived and joined the back of the queue at 10 were going to wait another 5-6 hours???

Because the house is small, visits are limited to 40 people every half hour. I regret spending an entire morning and early afternoon on this when there is so much more in the area to see.

Very little art to speak of inside. Feeling duped.

Even if you aren't a big Kahlo fan, this is a lovely place to spend an hour and get a glimpse of a private residence built around a courtyard garden. We purchased tickets online about a month in advance and arrived 15 minutes before our 3pm entry time. We had to wait in a short line (they gave us umbrellas to shield us from the sun) and were let in at 3pm. There is a cafe / snack bar in the garden, as well as a temporary exhibit spaces where her dresses and self-made corset back-braces were on display. We took an uber from the Centro Historico, which was easy and cheap.

Beautifully displayed works of art, house hold furniture and personal effects. Lovely gardens where you can sit for a while. It’s quiet compact so crowd control is necessary. But on line ticket and try aim for weekday as weekends are very busy. It’s not very clearly signed for the house entrance ... but it’s just inside the turnstile on your left. Queuing outside can be hot so bring water and a hat. You need to pay 30 pesos for photography (even for phone) but I don’t think everyone was doing this and still taking photos. It’s not much to pay really.

A dream fulfilled for a huge Frida Kahlo fan! What a place! If you love Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, don't even think of leaving Mexico without seeing Casa Azul! Be ready to stand in a long queue!! Totally worth it once you enter....you enter Frida's world. The bright blue and burnt sienna walls knock you dead...totally awesome. A slow moving queue around the rooms of the casa gives enough time to absorb and appreciate one of Mexico's most iconic artists! The slow moving line also gives fans the time to feel Frida's suffering and also her zest for life
through it all. We were lucky enough to be there to admire the totally awesome "Dia De Los Muertos Offrenda"! I can't wait to go back to Mexico City just to enjoy Casa Azul all over again!
Highly recommended.
