Part 4 and final part of the period murder series from 1979. Dr Bickleigh finds himself in court on trial for his life when he is charged with the murder of his wife. Things are looking very black indeed, but as the trial progresses there is a slim chance that may yet save him. Could there yet be a twist in the tale?

Starring Hywel Bennett, Cheryl Campbell, Belinda Carroll, Michael Aldridge, Thorley Walters, David Ashford, Antony Brown, Anthony Woodruff, Vivienne Moore, Christopher Banks and Frank Duncan. This is from an old recording of the series, which hasn't been repeated since it's broadcast in March 1979, so apologies in advance for any picture quality issues there may be. The theme music is by Ron Grainer, who did numerous TV themes in his time, notably Doctor Who and Tales of the Unexpected. The period settings are wonderful, while Hywel Bennett's performance as Dr Bickleigh has so many different nuances to it, ranging from sympathetic, creepy and in some of his voice over moments very funny. It's such a shame this series has never been repeated, as it deserves a TV showing.
