Dead in the Water (Police Scotland Crime Series Book 1) Kindle Edition
As Acting DC Scott Cullen works with DC Craig Hunter to track down a witness who didn’t show during a court case, they stumble upon another crime – two homeless women, dying of a suspected heroin overdose.
As they investigate, they uncover a far-reaching criminal empire, dealing death and misery to Edinburgh’s underclass. And come across another investigative team who may not be exactly on the same side.
As the case brings two cops together and drives a wedge between another pair, can Cullen and Hunter rescue the witness and bring her assailant to justice?
Dead in the Water is the first book in the Police Scotland crime thriller series of bestselling Scottish crime novels.

The bestselling DI Simon Fenchurch series is set on the gritty streets of East London, with seven books in the series.
The Scott Cullen series of Scottish police procedurals features a young Edinburgh Detective Constable investigating crimes from the bottom rung of the career ladder he's desperate to climb. The first book, "Ghost in the Machine", has been downloaded over 400,000 times, hitting both the Amazon UK & US top five.
Spinning off the Cullen books, the Craig Hunter books star a PTSD-suffering ex-squaddie now working as a cop investigating sexual abuse cases, with lots of slapstick and office banter. The first three books are out now.
DS Vicky Dodds has two books set in Dundee, with another two planned for release in 2021.
I live in the Scottish Borders, Scotland and I write full-time, but used to work in IT project management, where I filled my weekly commute to London by literally writing on planes, trains and automobiles.

The constant swapping perspective between the main characters left me with reading whiplash. The story didn't seem to really go anywhere & yet the twist at the end guaranteed that I've got to read the next
book in the series to justify the time spent on this one !
Definitely a "Marmite" kind of book.
Easily picking up on where I left off, years ago albeit a young Cullen, it was familiar feel from what I remembered.
It’s not a long book so plot wise it’s not to complex. It’s a nice start to show why many characters turn out how they are in later books.
It’s a decent read
This is another great book from Ed James which shows all Cullen and Hunter fans just how they got mixed up with Brian Bain a decade ago. Most of the main protagonists are here and it's also a chance to see what their place in everything was. The storyline links the then with the now but also leaves questions unanswered and boxes unticked as thankfully there is one more installment to come.
I have enjoyed the Scott Cullen books from the very start and, if this is the beginning of the end, I have every expectation of him bowing out in style even if, as things seem to be with him, a little dubiously! There is a cliffhanger to lead into the final chapters but this is way more than an almost finale. The younger Scott Cullen shows hints of who he will become, as does Craig Hunter, and their investigation was as satisfying a flashback as they all deserve.
I was able to read an advanced copy of this thanks to the author Ed James and Grey Dog Books but the opinions expressed are my own. This a brilliant story by a first class author which was a pleasure to read.
I like this author and have read other books by him and really enjoyed them.
I have already got another book by this author and really looking forward to reading it.
