Our guide was very knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions we had about the elephants. We are able to feed the elephants, give them a mud bath, spray them with water and wash them. You go round in small groups, there were 10 people in our group.
The elephants looked so happy here, the little ones were fooling around in the pool! There are no chains, no sticks to hit them with and no sticks with nails on the end like we had seen at the previous one!
Some would say bathing them isn’t ethical but these elephants have come from poor backgrounds, the people here have taken care of them and have to train them to a certain extent in order to control them. The reality is if places like this didn’t exist then those elephants would have been disposed of by the previous owners and left.

The beach is sheltered and is shallow making it perfect for those less confident in the water and families. With how green the water looked from a far I thought that it would be turquoise water when we got there. It wasnt. There are no facilities(showers or bathrooms) that we could see. We set up at the far left if looking at the water where the sun chairs are at to rent. 4 chairs and 2 umbrellas was 400 baht. The sand was extremely hot, so bring some water shoes. The water was like bathtub temps. I could see where that would seem nice, but we were hoping for a cooler dip based off the heat outside. We didn’t realise streight away but had plenty of time to realise you go streight to a hut in the middle with special offering packages and flowers and you take some and put a donation in the collection box , the package included gold leaf to add to the Buddhas in one temple and candles and incense sticks plus flowers to put in the bowls . We were just in Phuket for a day and weren’t sure what to do near the airport, but I’m so glad that we stumbled upon soi dog. It was encouraging after seeing so many stray animals on our trip to hear about the efforts this organization takes not only to treat and rehabilitate injured and ill animals, but also the education they offer the community about animal care! Not to mention it was so fun to help socialize the puppies!
