Director Mohan Raja and Jayam Ravi's 'Thani Oruvan', which released in 2015, is one of the most celebrated cop dramas in Tamil cinema. On August 28, the filmmaker announced the sequel to the film on its eighth anniversary. 'Thani Oruvan 2' will feature Jayam Ravi and Nayanthara in lead roles. The special promo promised more action from Jayam Ravi's character, Mithran.

On August 28, 'Thani Oruvan' celebrated its eighth anniversary. To mark the special occasion, Mohan Raja announced 'Thani Oruvan 2' with a special promo. The concept teaser shows that Jayam Ravi's character is on the lookout for a new enemy. And we see Raja telling him that this time, the villain will come in search of him.

Sharing the promo, Mohan Raja wrote, "On this #8yearsofThanioruvan proudly joining for the 3rd time with @Ags_production, 4th time with the lady superstar #Nayanthara AND 7th time with MY DEARMOST @actor_jayamravi for my 11th film #ThaniOruvan2 (sic)."

'Thani Oruvan' revolved around a dutiful police officer, played by Jayam Ravi, and a corrupt scientist, played by Arvind Swami. The police officer tries to expose the scientist and brings forth the medical malpractices he had committed. It was one of the biggest hit ventures in Jayam Ravi's career.
