University Programs Presents Stand Up Comedy by Mike Birbiglia

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – University Programs will host a live performance by comedian Mike Birbilgia at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 11 in the Verizon Ballroom at the University of Arkansas Union.

This event is free to current University of Arkansas Fayetteville students through the Student Activities Fee, and students must show university ID for entrance. Admission for general public is free and contingent upon seating availability. Mike Birbiglia is a comedian, actor, and writer best known for his award-winning one-man shows, My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend (2011) and Sleepwalk with Me (2008), which straddle standup comedy and theater. The New York Times called My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend “ridiculously enjoyable” and it was named a critic’s pick by The New York Times, Time Out New York, and New York Magazine. Over the past 12 years, Birbiglia has developed his own unique story-telling style in the world of standup comedy. Time Magazine calls him, "Master of the personal, embarrassing tale." The New York Times describes him as "A supremely enjoyable monologist." And The Associated Press has called his shows, “Both laugh-out-loud funny and earnestly reflective."

Birbiglia has appeared on more than 40 network talk shows including Letterman, Kimmel, Carson Daly, Conan, Craig Ferguson, and Jimmy Fallon, and he has three Comedy Central TV Specials, including What I Should Have Said Was Nothing. Birbiglia has released three albums with Comedy Central Records. His 2007 release, My Secret Public Journal Live, was named one of "The Best Comedy Albums of the Decade" by both The Onion and USA Today. His 2011 Comedy Central Records release, Sleepwalk with Me Live, debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts. In 2011, Birbiglia directed and starred in the feature film adaptation of Sleepwalk with Me.
