Daniel Figueroa IV is an award-winning multimedia journalist and the Associate Editor for CT Insider’s Trending and Features team.
Daniel joined Hearst in 2022 as a trending reporter covering arts and culture in the Nutmeg State, touching on the history of neighborhoods through the lens of local photographers and local food; issues facing the state’s LGBTQ+ community and extensive reporting on the state’s rental industry. He documented Connecticut’s famous Warren family, made famous by the “Conjuring” and “Annabelle” films, through both written word and video. He also facilitated the reunion of actors Chris and Susan Sarandon 45 years after their divorce, ahead of their first live appearance in decades.
He’s originally from the Bronx, but spent one-third of his life in Florida, where he wrote about everything from politics to Disney and traced the steps of cultural icons like Jack Kerouac. He once nearly sent himself to the hospital after eating the world’s spiciest ice cream — for journalism. He covered cops, veterans and politics at the Ledger of Lakeland before becoming a reporter and digital producer for the Tampa Bay Times, where he helped launch newsletter and flash news brief programs.
He was also a radio reporter and anchor for 88.5 WMNF Community Radio in Tampa where he spent time covering heated protests and social unrest following the police murder of George Floyd, contamination at the Piney Point phosphate plant and the 2020 election cycle, before becoming the Tampa and St. Petersburg reporter for online political magazine Florida Politics.
When he’s not searching for stories to tell, Daniel can be found in a book, on a motorcycle, playing drums or dreaming of galaxies far, far away.
