What's your opinion on One Tree Hill?
I am in the mood for a teen drama, and since I also like sports I thought of One Tree Hill. Is it any good?

I enjoyed it but does get a bit melodramatic.
Friday Night Lights would probably be a better choice to watch for teen drama with sports.
I have already watched Friday Night Lights (I loved it).
One tree hill is one of my favorite shows ever
I don't wanna watch anything other than what I've been trying to watch lately
đđthe theme tune actually slapped though!
All I have to do is think of me, and I have peace of mind
The first season is good, the second season is a chore, three and four are pretty good (although Dan goes full mustache-twirl) and all the other seasons are pretty poor and go into full on soap opera territory.
I'm 29/m and it's one of my guilty pleasures so if you fancy a sports drama you'll enjoy it, espcially the first four seasons. My personal opinion is that the first six seasons are the best and then the quality drops, the season 6 finale was also intended to be the series finale so it's the perfect drop off point, if you reach that point and still enjoy the show though it's worth continuing.
That's where I dropped off both times I watched. The early seasons are angsty gold, though.
Itâs not a guilty pleasure
One Tree Hill was the only teen drama I ever liked. It was one of two shows I ever HAD to get home to watch when new episodes aired.
What was the other show?
The Simpsons
You didnât like 90210?
First few seasons were alright but it was very soap-operary in parts. Personally I prefer the meta humour/indie music OC over OTH.
Then again I think I'm still in love with Sophia Bush after all these years.
Seasons 1-4 are a solid, contained show with a good ending IMO. Everything after that is meh.
Short answer: it's the show where a dog eats a heart meant for organ transplant, and I'll forever love it for that scene alone. I also will never forgive how they routinely did Brooke Davis dirty for agonizingly long stretches with little to no narrative reason or meaningful payoff
It's 100% a soap opera in the vein of The OC. Maybe even better music on OTH than The OC
It holds a lot of nostalgic appeal for me, so I have good opinions about it in that regard; however, I donât think Iâd be able to rewatch it scene to scene. It definitely starts to get super melodramatic, especially after season 4.
It always boggled my mind that they had more seasons as âadultsâ than they did in their HS years, when most people probably remember OTH from their HS years. I canât think of a single iconic episode in S5-S9 but can think of plenty from 1-4.
It is indeed heavy on the drama. Watch it but, when 2 of the main characters leave the show peyton and Lucas, don't bother with the rest.
Dan Scott is a god damn hero. One of the best TV âbad guysâ ever.
One of my favorite U2 songs.
It definitely has its ups and downs and the later seasons are pretty weak. But I overall really enjoyed the ride because the core characters â especially Peyton, Brooke, and Haley â are great and others are likable, too. Itâs not the same level of quality as FNL at its best but certainly entertaining to watch.
zzzzzzzzz
My girlfriend loves it but there's a girl in it that I desperately wish would clear her throat.
Stop after Season 6 and youâve got a more natural ending!
Skins is the real way to go if youâre lookin for some teen drama
I would suggest One Tree Hill, The O.C, Gilmore Girls, and Gossip Girl. If you want some Teen Drama.
More like One Twee Hill
Tree Hill is good because it dragged the high school years out for 4 crazy ass seasons. The plot lines are insane, everyone sucks except for Brooke (don't @ me) and it's easy to drop in and out.
My partner is watching through for the first time and it's so funny watching him flip out
Brooke isnât all that much better than the rest of them
It's quite possibly the best teen drama in history. It's more for people on the angsty/emotional side of things than the OC which was more populist.
meaning what?
I don't know if populist was the right word for what I was trying to say, but I would guess artistic people or introverts were more likely to be drawn to OTH, and the OC had more extroverts watching it in groups. You're more likely to see characters talking about their feelings on OTH and more likely to see characters drinking at a party on the OC. That's not to say either show doesn't have the other (eg. Brooke is a popular girl in OTH and Seth is a nerd in the OC), but at its heart I think OTH was more in its feelings and the OC was a bit more on the surface. To its credit I think OC was probably funnier and easier watch for some people while as Family Guy made fun of it for OTH teen characters took themselves very seriously.
good answer
Artistic people would be watching neither of these shows lmao
TIL show with scenes like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WzPDEirVTZk is better than My So-Called Life, Freaks and Geeks and Friday Night Lights.
Yep, clearly the best.
Nope a few are better
I remember watching the school shooting episode when I was a kid. One of the best episodes I've seen from a teen drama.
I always thought it was dumb as hell. Even when I was the target audience. But it sounds like it might be up your alley. And it's not like you can't just stop watching it you don't like it. Just check it out. All you have to lose is an hour of your life if you don't like the first episode.
But man, I thought it was dumb then and I think it's dumb now. (But dumb shows can be fun, whatever)
First time watching it is amazing. One of those series I just cannot rewatch again
great show - seasons 1,3 and 4 for best, definitely sports wise
One Tree Hill was my jam back in the day! It takes the Dawson Creek formula (another favorite) and watches everything up to 10. Eventually this goes off the verge of "believable high school drama" as they bring in more soap opera-ey tropes, at it's core though the writing hooks you and makes you care about the emotions. I left after the two stars left but I still maintain it's one of the best shows I've ever seen.
First 6 season are very good. The remaining seasons have their moments, but overall the show lasted too long.
The show is enjoyable outside of Lucasâs edgelord character
Overall itâs good now it can be corn central sometimes especially the early seasons, but which teen drama isnât. Speaking of the early seasons theyâre perfect for a cringe filled trip down the early 2000â
The sport elements does fade away as season go, itâs still there tot eh very end but not central.
Itâs a very interesting show because it has two halves the first 4 seasons is your typical teen drama. The second half (5 seasons) itâs morph into a young adult drama the actor get to play their actual age and itâs something quite unique because you donât see many young adult drama without a fantastical elements. Itâs just them dealing with career problems and mid 20âs crisis. Of course itâs tv so itâs very unrealistic to see people crying about their non existent career while living in a lofts.
Overall it got a whole lot of heart throughout itâs 9 seasons much more than the likes of Gossip Girl or The OC which wasnât able to sustain it. The storylines are hit and misses (again like most teen drama). The characters thoâ are key especially in the second half you canât help but fall in love.
PS: Itâs has 9 seasons with two shorts one, season 5 because of the writer strikes and season 9 which was more of encore season as season 8 could definitely work as a finale.
OTH is fine.
If youâre looking for teen drama + sports, though, you might try All American.
Iâve been watching the original Beverly Hills 90210 and it is solid. The fashion, era and 90âs lifestyle porn is on point. I highly recommend it.
It might have more drama than any show Iâve ever watched. First 5 seasons are great, then it gets almost unwatchable.
OTH is good but for sports and teens, all American is pretty decent and recent.
Checkout Smallville, if you donât mind some hero action in between
1-6 are great, S5 isn't the best as the differences. S6 picks up again and that's when I stopped watching. I have no idea how many seasons there are after 6 though.
Iâd say my favorite guilty pleasure show of all time
This show is more than a guilty pleasure
Yeah it is one of the best teen dramas. It dipped after season 6 though.
I love the show
For me, it showed that no problem is so big that it can't be solved by staring at a lake.
It was almost OK for one season, then for season two they realized it was basically a total teen chick show already so they dumped all the sports. Do not watch.
I watched the first season and it was pretty good. But wouldnât you want to watch something more recent? Have you seen Riverdale, Sex Education or Baby? Those are teen dramas as well. Otherwise Iâd would recommend O.C. California instead of One Tree Hill.
Not attacking you or anything, but why the assumption someone should watch something more recent?
Would, not should. I was just asking out of interest on what to recommend, it wasnât some kind of shading.
Riverdale I liked season 1, but I gave up in season 2 when it got too nonsensical for my taste. I watched a couple of episodes of Sex Education, but it didn't hook me. I haven't watched Baby. The O.C. is a possibility, but I thought of One Tree Hill because I like sports.
Yeah in Riverdale you have to like the over the top stuff. Gets even crazier in season 3 but I found it hella funny although itâs pretty dumb overall.
The O.C. is written 10x better than One Tree Hill. I'd go with that first. It's one of my all time favorite teen dramas up there with FNL. I envy you that you'll be seeing it for the first time.
One Tree Hill is no where near as bad as Riverdale, but be prepared for an inconsistent ride. It's not nearly as well-written as FNL or OC. It's best seasons are 1,3,4,9 in my opinion. The focus on basketball almost drops completely in Season 2, so be prepared for that if your watching it for the basketball drama (the basketball storylines come back for seasons 3 - 6). Seasons 5-6 are interesting enough (there's a time skip after high school, and you now see the entire cast as adults). Seasons 7-8 are piss poor, especially 8. The show loses two of it's major cast members, and it's obvious the show's budget was significantly decreased during those seasons. For Season 9, the show makes enough of a comeback to end on a good note.
It's by far my favorite teen drama. I watched it in my teens when it was on TV and I still remember every characters like I watched it today. I wish I could watch it for the first time again.
No opinion.
one tree hill is one of the best shows ever def watch it
The OC way better in my opinion ! One Tree Hill is decent
