Academic

As well as helping boys gain admission to top universities, the academic life at Harrow encourages scholarship, intellectual curiosity, independent thought and effective learning habits. We offer a coherent and balanced curriculum that responds quickly to changing requirements, as well as a challenging and inspiring Super-Curriculum that widens and enriches boys' knowledge and understanding.

The curriculum is divided into the Shell year, the GCSE years (Remove and Fifth Form) and, finally, the Sixth Form. In the latter two stages, we aim to ensure that boys perform to their potential in public examinations so that they can access the best academic and career opportunities. Value-added analysis shows, year after year, that Harrovians achieve far beyond their comparable peers at other schools, in both the maintained and independent sectors.

Our Super-Curriculum stretches boys beyond the (I)GCSE and A-level syllabuses, through activities that support learning above the measurable outcomes of examination results.

Around 20% of our beaks (teachers) have doctorates and many undertake their own writing and research.
