Jim Shaneberger Work in Progress CD (2013)
"The Storm is Coming" is a song about planting his flag in the music scene as a solo artist, announcing his arrival and "Drinking Muddy Water" is about the urge to travel and get his music out into the world, expressing the hunger for touring. Covers include: "One More Chance" by Michael Burks, "You Belong to Me" by Magic Sam, "You're Fine" by Chico Banks and "Big Leg Woman" by Freddie King.
Songwriter and performing musician Jim Shaneberger has been a mainstay in the Michigan music scene for 15 years and counting, recording and touring with Flint, MI blues powerhouse Greg Nagy and the legendary Donald Kinsey. "Little Lylia" is a poignant acoustic guitar instrumental written for his baby daughter.
Shaneberger's original songs are a showcase of his diverse range of musical interests, each drawing from a unique genre and theme. "Work in Progress" is a commentary on his own life philosophy about growing goals leading to new challenges. "Running Your Mouth" is a nod to old school blues with a few twists and some very frank lyrics. Musically, it's like Johnny Winter meets Led Zeppelin. Work In Progress, Jim Shaneberger's debut album, features a mix of original compositions and rearrangements of classic blues and r&b songs that serve as tributes to blues legends that have passed on. Recorded at Redwall North Recording Company in Grand Haven, MI, the songs boast a bluesy, funky, soulful combination with Shaneberger playing all parts except drums, which are held down by Jim's longtime friend and bandmate Karl Schantz.
Best known as a bass guitarist and vocalist, Shaneberger's songwriting prowess makes its debut on Work in Progress. Bassist Robert Pace is steeped in gospel, jazz and r&b and has played with Marvin Sapp, Ken Reynolds, The Williams Brothers, Twinkie Clark, The DeBarges and more.
"It's been a long time coming," said Jim Shaneberger. "Trouble" is an r&b song with socially conscious lyrics; his 'change the world' song. Schantz, featured on the album, and Shaneberger have worked together previously in the Greg Nagy Band, Harry Lucas & The Lowdown, Mercurial Son and The Funky Gentlemen.
The Jim Shaneberger Band brings together adept musicians with backgrounds in blues, rock, gospel and funk for a lively stage performance.

Harry Nilsson Nilsson Schmilsson CD (2004)
Nilsson's multi-octave voice was never so full of life. In keeping with the domesticated figure on the cover--complete with housecoat, cigarette, and waiting refrigerator--the mood is laidback and homey, and there's a palpable feeling of comfort in both the production and the material. The late Harry Nilsson's creative and commercial peak, this LP showcases the singer-songwriter's lighthearted worldview to best advantage. Here you get strong interpretive singing (how ironic that this tunesmith's biggest hits were covers, such as Badfinger's "Without You"), inventive arranging (the hilarious, marble-mouthed "Coconut"), and distinctive melodicism (check out that lovely paean to the stars, "The Moonbeam Song"). It remains one of the best, most consistent, and least dated albums from an early-'70s era not known for underplayed, unpretentious subtlety. Other albums (like the John Lennon-produced Kitty Cats and the essential Nilsson Sings Newman ) have their moments, but this is where to begin any Nilsson collection.
