The New Zealand batter went past Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 2021 Orange Cap winning tally of 635 runs in 16 matches to become CSK’s second-highest scorer in a single IPL season. He is now only behind former Australia batter Michael Hussey, who scored 733 runs in IPL 2013.

Chasing 171 runs in 15 overs, Conway and Gaikwad got CSK off to a flying start, stitching a rapid 74-run stand. The two openers took on the GT bowling unit and smashed them all over the park following a rain-interrupted delay of two hours and 20 minutes after GT’s innings.

Conway missed out on his maiden IPL Final half-century, being dismissed by GT spinner Noor Ahmad in the seventh over. Conway scored 47 runs off 25 balls, hitting four boundaries and a couple of sixes. His knock in the IPL 2023 Final took his tally of runs to 672, to move up to third place in the race for the Orange Cap.

Conway finished IPL 2023 only behind GT opener Shubman Gill (890 runs) and Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Faf du Plessis (730 runs) in the race for the Orange Cap. The Kiwi batter scored 672 runs in 16 games, at an average of 51.69, while striking at 139.70.

Earlier in the game, B Sai Sudharsan scored 98 runs off 47 balls to propel his side to a total of 214 for 4 in the first innings, registering the highest-ever total in an IPL Final. Matheesha Patrirana was the pick of the CSK bowlers, claiming two wickets while giving away 44 runs in four over, while Tushar Deshpande leaked the most runs, conceding 56 runs in his four overs.
