But more recently, binge-watching has become not only something people do but a driving factor that shapes the way some entertainment is formed on a core level. Whether you've been binge-watching your whole life or recently slid into the habit, there are some shows that are just perfect to mainline as quickly as possible. 'Under the Bridge' (2024)

Led by one of 2024’s biggest breakout stars, Lily Gladstone, Under the Bridge tells the tragic true tale of 14-year-old Reena Virk (Vritika Gupta). In 1997, Reena rebelled against her parents’ wishes and went to a friend’s party, sadly never returning home, leading to a subsequent murder investigation that would shake the small community of Saanich, British Columbia. Featuring a stellar ensemble cast, highlighted by the truly talented Gladstone, Under the Bridge is a tough watch because of the subject matter. However, it is also a powerful retelling of a difficult story, with emphasis put on both the investigation and the horrifying effects it had on the family. - Jake Hodges

'Evil' (2019 - 2014)

Created by Robert and Michelle King, Evil is a horror drama series that stars Katja Herbers, Mike Colter, and Aasif Mandvi as three people who come together to investigate possible cases of the supernatural on behalf of the Catholic Church. The series aired on CBS for its first season, then moved to Paramount+ starting with Season 2. With four seasons, Evil has repeatedly been hailed as one of the best shows of its kind. The show has consistently performed well with critics and audiences, receiving widespread praise for the performances of its leads, as well as the direction, cinematography, and writing. With a perfect balance of emotional depth, spooky mysteries, and decidedly dark humor, Evil is a riveting watch throughout its run, and it’s a shame it’s reached the end of the road.

'Bodkin' (2024)

Rotten Tomatoes: 69% | IMDb: 7.0/10

A seven-episode dark comedy thriller series, Bodkin was created by Jez Scharf and stars Will Forte as Gilbert Power, an American podcaster who travels to an Irish coastal town to investigate a cold case. The series also stars Siobhán Cullen as Dubheasa "Dove" Maloney, an investigative journalist, and Robyn Cara as Gilbert’s assistant, Emmy Sizergh. Presenting a satirical take on the true crime rage of recent times, Bodkin is a flawed yet hilarious piece of storytelling carried by its eccentric characters. While the central mystery may not be the most enthralling, it’s those characters that make the show such an engaging watch. The beautiful Irish setting and dark sense of humor add further appeal to the series, setting it apart from other podcaster satires like Only Murders in the Building or Based on a True Story. If you’re in the mood for a compelling story with well-written characters and black humor, then a trip to Bodkin is exactly what you need.

'The Resident' (2018 - 2023)

The Resident is a Fox medical drama series that follows the lives of staff members at the fictional Chastain Park Memorial Hospital. Created by Amy Holden Jones, Hayley Schore, and Roshan Sethi, the series stars Matt Czuchry, Emily VanCamp, Manish Dayal, Shaunette Renée Wilson, and Bruce Greenwood, among others. Though largely panned by critics, The Resident proved to be quite popular with audiences during its six-season run on Fox. It’s very much a series for fans of TV medical dramas, though it does attempt to break out of the mold by focusing on the bureaucracy and greed of people in the medical world. While not 100% accurate to real life, the series shines a light on the darker side of the medical business, with doctors and patients who often fall below the ideals projected by other medical drama shows. The quality does dip towards the end, but for the most part, The Resident is an enjoyable series with great actors that explores some interesting aspects of the health industry in a way that most medical dramas don’t.

'Girls5eva' (2021 - Present)

A delightful musical sitcom created by Meredith Scardino, Girls5Eva follows a briefly-famous 1990s girl group who gets a second shot at stardom. The series boasts a talented ensemble cast with Sara Bareilles, Busy Philipps, Paula Pell, and Renée Elise Goldsberry as the titular musicians. The show originally streamed on Peacock for two successful seasons before moving to Netflix for Season 3, which premiered on March 14, 2024. A smart, funny, and critically acclaimed show, Girls5Eva has grown bigger and better with each season. The series’ success is largely thanks to its effortless, relatable humor and the delightful chemistry between its leads. Season 3 is arguably the best entry yet, taking the elements that made the first two seasons so popular and kicking it all up a notch. Whether you’re enjoying it with friends or flying solo, Girls5Eva promises an entertaining watch that balances comedy and music with just the right amount of nostalgia.

'Baby Reindeer' (2024)

A thrilling partly fictionalized story of real trauma, Baby Reindeer is a complex and brilliantly conceived show that’s received universal acclaim from critics. The show is produced by Clerkenwell Films, who also did Netflix’s The End of the F***ing World, and there is a clear connection between the two in terms of tone. The narrative can be quite painful and messy at times, but it's all underscored by a dark and twisted sense of humor. The fact that these events are based on reality just makes the show feel even more surreal as Donny and Martha’s story escalates and spirals out of control. This is a series that demands to be binged, as each episode will leave you eager for the next.

'Fallout' (2024 - Present)

Based on Tim Cain’s popular video game franchise of the same name, Prime Video’s Fallout is a post-apocalyptic drama series created by Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet. Set in a far-future nuclear wasteland over 200 years after the apocalypse, the show follows a young woman who leaves the fallout shelter she calls home to find her father, finding a world that’s a lot stranger than she imagined in the process. The series stars Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, Kyle MacLachlan, and Walton Goggins. One of the most highly anticipated video game adaptations in recent times, Fallout premiered on Prime Video on April 10, 2024, to critical acclaim. The show is chock-full of brilliant performances, especially from Ella Purnell in the lead role. It’s also well-written, balancing faithfulness to the source material with a narrative that’s accessible to those who are new to the franchise. Add to that some epic visual effects and production design, and you get a show that further proves that the series form is the best way to adapt a video game franchise.

'The Gentlemen' (2024 - Present)

Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen is a spinoff series inspired by his 2019 film of the same name. Theo James stars as a young aristocrat and soldier who unexpectedly inherits the family estate — only to find that his ancestral lands are part of a secret weed empire run by the enigmatic Susie Glass (Kaya Scodelario). The show’s stellar cast list also includes Daniel Ings, Joely Richardson, Vinnie Jones, Giancarlo Esposito, and Ray Winstone. The show’s eight-episode first season dropped on Netflix on March 7, garnering generally favorable reviews from critics and an overwhelmingly positive reception from viewers. Theo James and Kaya Scodelario deliver perfectly crafted performances that elevate a slick series full of zany, thrilling Guy Ritchie-ness. Despite sharing its name and some elements of the plot with the 2019 film, The Gentlemen series is its own beast and is perhaps best enjoyed if taken as a separate story altogether. It’s a mad-cap collection of deadly, absurd adventures with a sense of humor and style that makes its roughly eight-hour runtime breeze by as you become more and more invested in this world and its characters.

'Ripley' (2024 - Present)

Steven Zaillian’s Ripley is a black-and-white period noir thriller that stars Andrew Scott as the titular grifter. Based on Patricia Highsmith’s Tom Ripley novels, the eight-episode miniseries also stars Dakota Fanning, Johnny Flynn, Eliot Sumner, and more. A Manhattan industrialist hires New York conman Tom Ripley (Scott) to go to Italy and convince his son (Flynn) to come home, but once there, Tom begins a journey of deceit, fraud, and violence as he tries to claw his way to wealth and comfort. While the source material has previously been adapted, Zaillian’s Ripley is unlike anything that’s come before. That’s largely thanks to the performances of the lead cast, who present complex, grounded characters who are neither fully good nor bad. The biggest draw of the series, however, is its mindblowing cinematography, which shows a masterful command of light and shadow that elevates the show from a thriller series to high art.

'Shogun' (2024 - Present)

A social experiment dating reality show, Love is Blind comes from creator Chris Coelen, with real-life couple Nick and Vanessa Lachey hosting. Each season introduces a slew of single men and women, placing them on opposite sides of a wall so they can get to know each other without seeing what they look like. Contestants spend several days talking blindly and building a bond before being given the opportunity to propose. Should the other person accept, the couple is allowed to see each other. The rest of the season follows the engaged couples as they attempt to plan (and hopefully follow through with) a wedding.

Born of a truly creative concept, Love is Blind continues to attract audiences with a gorgeous cast who often hold the mirror to societal expectations of beauty and attraction. The first episodes of each season are arguably the most interesting, as the unique premise shines especially bright there, but once the storylines hook you, there's no turning it off until the reunion concludes. - Yael Tygiel

One Day, based on the David Nicholls novel of the same name, is a British television series that premiered in 2024 on Netflix. The show was ordered by the streamer in 2021 and tells the story of Emma and Dexter, who meet on the night of their graduation from university. The only problem is they have to part ways the next day, but they can’t stop thinking about one another. The year is 1988, but we get to watch Emma and Dexter over the next 20 years on the same day of every year: July 15.

The show stars Leo Woodall (The White Lotus) as Dexter and Ambika Mod as Emma. The series also co-stars Amber Grappy, Brendan Quinn, Johnny Weldon (House of the Dragon), and Tim McInnerny (Notting Hill). The series was praised by audiences for its romantic feel and ability to make us fall in love with Emma and Dexter. - Emily Cappello

Co-starring Maya Erskine (PEN15), Mr. and Mrs. Smith features fun appearances by Paul Dana (There Will Be Blood), Alexander Skarsgård (Big Little Lies), Sharon Horgan (Catastrophe), and Ron Perlman (Hellboy).

Mr. & Mrs. Smith is based on the 2005 film of the same name starring Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. When the original film premiered, it was a huge hit and was the biggest box-office success for both Jolie and Pitt. Based on the Dutch series De Verraders, The Traitors is like a childhood game of “Mafia” to the max, as a small group of players within the bunch are secretly marked as “Traitors” and eliminate contestants one by one without revealing their deceit. Those who aren’t Traitors are “Faithfuls,” whose job it is to figure out who the Traitors are in order to win the grand prize.

The Traitors is one of the most stunning reality shows you will ever watch. From the setting to the fashion to the interior design of the set, it is, from start to finish, a feast for the eyes. Host Alan Cumming (Schmigadoon!) is perfect for the role of host who says everything with a foreboding tone of voice while looking absolutely fabulous, and he makes the show all the more watchable, even if you’re not familiar with the contestants, all of whom come from previous reality shows like The Bachelor and Survivor. - Emily Cappello

'The Great British Bake Off' (2010 - Present)

The Great British Bake Off is a phenomenon. Starting in 2010, the show’s growth can be proven through its channel hopping. Originally premiering on BBC Two, the GBBO moved to BBC due to its popularity, then signed a three-year deal after its seventh season to move to Channel 4 in the UK. Each season of the show features a group of amateur bakers who compete against one another in different rounds, hoping to wow the two judges of the show. One by one, contestants are eliminated until there is one winner left. Like the show’s habit of changing channels, there has also been a continual rotation of judges. The current judges are Paul Hollywood, an English celebrity chef, and Prue Leith, a South African restauranteur and author.

The BAFTA Award-winning show is called The Great British Baking Show in the United States, as “Bake-Off” is owned by Pillsbury. The GBBO has also had its share of spin-offs, including Junior Bake Off for kids, the after-show recap series An Extra Slice, and Bake Off: The Professionals, which includes teams of pastry chefs. Fans across the world eat up this heartwarming series, and it's not hard to see why. - Emily Cappello

'Life Below Zero' (2013 - Present)

If you need to feel better about the winter weather in your state, National Geographic Channel’s Life Below Zero will certainly do the trick. Now in season 21, the show follows the lives of those living off the land in remote areas of Alaska. Produced by BBC, the show has had over 200 episodes. The show focuses on Sue Aikens, the only resident of the Kavik river camp; Glenn Villeneuve, who lives alone in Chandalar; Chip and Agnes Hailstone, along with their seven children as they live only nineteen miles from the Arctic Circle; Jessie Holmes, who is a hunter, fisherman, and dogsled racer who lives with no one but his forty sled dogs; Andy Bassich living with his twenty-five sled dogs; Erik and Martha Mae Salitain who live in Wiseman, Alaska; and Ricko DeWilde, who lives in a remote cabin in Husila, Alaska. Now, do you feel better about paying to turn the heat on when it’s cold out?

The show premiered in 2013 and has won several Creative Arts Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Cinematography in a Reality Program and Outstanding Picture Editing for an Unscripted Reality Program. Real Housewives of Atlanta (RHOA) premiered in 2008 as the third installment of the Real Housewives franchise. Created by Housewives creative Scott Dunlop, the show just aired its 15th season on Bravo, starring Shereé Whitfield, Kandi Burruss, Kenya Moore, Drew Sidora, Marlo Hampton, and Sanya Richards-Ross. RHOA became Bravo’s highest-rated program after its 2014 season and continues to be a guilty pleasure to fans around the country.

RHOA’s showrunner is Luke Nesalge, whose credits include other reality TV shows like Hype House, Basketball Wives, and Dancing with the Stars. Some notable RHOA alums include Kenya Moore, known for winning Miss USA in 1993, and NeNe Leakes, known for playing Roz Washington in the Fox show Glee. 'Real Housewives of New York City' (2008 - Present)

Real Housewives of New York City (RHONY) was originally titled Manhattan Moms but was then decided to be the second addition to the Housewives franchise, which had begun with The Real Housewives of Orange County. While the cast has shifted throughout its 14 seasons, the original cast included Bethenny Frankel, Luann de Lesseps (aka Countess Luann), Alex McCord, Ramona Singer, Jill Zarin, and Sonja Morgan. While the entire franchise has somewhat of its own cult following, RHONY’s longevity has produced three spinoff shows: Luann & Sonja: Welcome to Crappie Lake, Bethenny Ever After, and Bethenny & Fredrik — not to mention an Ultimate Girls Trip. Created by Scott Dunlop, RHONY airs on Bravo for its hoards of fans.

The 13th season of RHONY was poorly reviewed and was the first time in the franchise’s history that there would be no reunion show. In a shocking twist, it became the last season for its entire cast, with season 14 being completely revamped with new women front and center like former J. Crew president Jenna Lyons and model Uban Hassan. And the show was all the better for it, breathing life back into the series and solidifying its relevancy and entertainment for years to come. This is the perfect reality binge, so don't be surprised if you sit down to watch a single episode and suddenly realize you "just one more"d yourself into watching half a season in one sitting. - Emily Cappello
