One Man, one Woman, and 2 Dogs

Sometimes more dogs.

One Man, one Woman, and 2 Dogs

Sometimes more dogs.

Dave and wife Mindi, along with their 2 pups Lemon and Taco spend over half their year on Vancouver Island. Out in the woods, Far enough away from the most of the world, but surrounded by more than enough technology to be “in your studio” in an instant.

Then every winter like a a flock of Canadian geese, the 4 of them pack up their lives and drive for 5 days, across 2 countries. Their destination? The sun and beaches of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Trading pine trees for palm trees and the solitude of the forests for the mariachi by the sea in Jalisco.

This has been going on for 7 years now. 2020 was a different scenario and this year isn’t much different, but all of us are hopeful life will return to normal soon. For now we feel good about staying put. As soon as the grey sky and rain comes for weeks on end, we may be singing a different tune.

Part of the return journeys often involve bringing rescued dogs back to Canada. Taco was our first, but since then we’ve brought/flown back 10 dogs to new homes. Being involved with the rescue agencies give our time in Mexico that much more meaning.

OTHER FUN DAVE FACTS

  • Dave is a an avid wood worker who loves to build furniture, garden boxes and more
  • One of those woodworking pastimes is carving spoons. From logs. I’m not kidding
  • Dave and Mindi’s travels to Mexico have also help them become more than acquainted with 100’s of bottles of tequila. Not the tequila that destroyed your youth. Really. Good. Tequila.
  • Dave and Mindi once had front row seats to a Cirque de Soleil show in Victoria. During the performance, Dave was called on stage to perform with a much younger, much more limber acrobat. What he lacked in flexibility, he made up in innovation and left the stage to uproarious applause.  For days after, while in Seattle, or driving back up Vancouver Island and stopping for gas, numerous people recognized him on the street and called out to him “Hey! Cirque de Soleil Guy.”
  • Dave won a “beauty” contest as a baby. It was the Russell, Manitoba Beef and Barley Days where he proudly took home the “Chubbiest Baby Award”

TODD SEROTIUK – GREAT PACIFIC TELEVISION

After 2 seasons of Highway Thru Hell and 5 more of Heavy Rescue 401, something tells me Todd Serotiuk hears my voice as he falls asleep at night, because he writes scripts like they’re
already in my voice. Sweet dream, buddy!

A recording session with Dave might be one of the most pleasant experiences that involves listening to a giant man talk and wave his arms around.

Sometimes I even do a little warm up dance..
