- Jim723Morrison, IL149 contributionsI’d been to the National WWII Museum in New Orleans several years ago, so I was excited to see what the WWI one had to offer. While it isn’t quite as awesome as the WWII Museum, it’s pretty spectacular in its own right. Definitely worth the time to check it out.Written June 3, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- 523sandraoOklahoma City, OK807 contributionsWe spent four hours, including a delightful lunch at the museum cafe, and we could have stayed longer. This free museum is one of the best in the mid-west, if not the country! There’s something for everyone, including the lovely landscaped grounds. Tip—To avoid $14 charge for museum parking, get there when it opens at 10 am on the weekend & you’ll find lots of free street parking and in lots across the street.Written June 5, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Cassel12Herriman, UT264 contributionsA wonderful glimpse into the past! The stories and history of steamboat travel and all of the beautifully preserved artifacts is amazing. I had no idea an entire steamboat was found relatively intact in a farmers field. Well worth the admission and worth a few hours if you’re in KC.Written May 3, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - sirenazulclaroNew York City, NY239 contributionsA walkable plaza with lots of shops and dining, about 20 minutes walk from the Nelson-Atkins art museum. - ercwLos Angeles, CA24 contributionsI enjoy going to this zoo whenever I visit Kansas City and I make it a point to go. There are many animals to view and a good diversity of them as well. What I enjoy at this zoo is the tram ride where you get to view the Africa section from above and can look down on all the animals.
Be prepared to walk a lot. I did see other people riding some type of mo-ped that was decorated as an animal which I thought was very creative so I know there are options for those that can't or don't want to do the amount of walking needed.
The new addition to the zoo which is the Aquarium is great! I thought they did a very good job in how they displayed the aquatic life. I saw a lot of species I've never seen before at other Aquariums.
The Tropical building was also something I didn't expect to see a lot of diverse animals in but was pleasantly suprised. It had different type of monkeys, otters, porcupines, rodents, and some birds. It smelled VERY strongly of the poop in there though so be aware of that.
Things I feel like could be improved:
- Australia section. The exhibits need improvement for some of the animals. They seem dated and not up to par with how you would expect a current zoo to be. Also some seemed to be a bit too small compared to other zoos I've visited for the same type of animal.
- Not enough snacks and drink sections. It was real hot out and there was only one snowcone kiosk I saw throughout the zoo other than the restaurants and shops. I didn't want a snowcone, I wanted water. Other zoos have many kiosks to sell drinks and popcorn and other type of snacks. I would highly recommend at least putting in a couple more of those spread out. I saw some but they were closed.
- I would love to see the foliage and plant life improved upon in the park. Walking into the African section after the long bridge...the entrance had many grassy areas where nothing was there. If flowers or other plant life could be placed there and in many other areas in the zoo, it would make it a way more enjoyable experience and also would give me a feeling that this zoo not only cares about their animals but the experience of the visitor. I believe that the environment is an important part of a zoo experience.
Overall, I really like this zoo and will definitely be back to visit it next time I'm in Kansas City. Always interested to see what improvements or changes have been made and what species of animals have been introduced.Written June 4, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There are plenty of physical fitness activities to do, there are knowledge activities to discover, there are arts activities to help their creativity. She especially loves the indoor and outdoor play spaces, where she can exercise herself truly to exhaustion.

We made a reservation ahead of time. The host Tony was absolutely engaging and funny. The whole set up is great. The alcohol tasting was amazing. And we fell in love with the botanical gin. We also had fun watching the video about the history of this bar. A definite must!Written December 30, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TennG78Clarksville, TN162 contributionsThis was our second attraction visited on the first day of our May 2024 road trip.
Had this place on our list of must visit attractions in Kansas City so it wasn't really a hidden gem but it had a very quaint and simple effort to it. The ladies at the ticket counter were super friendly and helpful.
The museum itself is a two story building with the first floor being almost entirely devoted to dollhouse miniatures. My wife and I were more fascinated with the second story which contained many toys from our childhood.
My only disappointment was the lack of any souvenirs in their gift shop. We did purchase a magnet though.Written May 11, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
