It’s an absolutely amazing school that honestly cares about the academics of students and their safety and health.
This school classifies as a liberal arts high school, but I would say that its curriculum is focused on math and science. I feel very prepared for college, because the coursework is extremely heavy.
Beautiful campus where I learned incredible skills from life changing mentors. I’m still connected to these mentors and my peers, and I’ll always be realizing the value of my education.
The academics and college readiness are very good. However, the administration running the school is extremely poor. The layers of bureaucracy end up making the school accomplish nothing for their students and only for themselves and academics. Their care for students' wellbeing is an absolute minimum and run the school like it's a company with the only measuring factor of their success being GPA and ranking. As a boarding student, I find the freedom to be a very big positive but also shows a side of the people who are supposed to be monitoring the students end up not doing their job. I give this school a 2.5/5
Almost 16 years later, I fondly recall living, learning, and maturing within Cranbrook's safe, hallowed boarding halls. There, I met instructors who, after retirement, have shared family meals with me; I met friends who were the best men at my wedding; and, perhaps most importantly, I met myself. I reckoned with the extent of my character, willpower, and intellectual interests. Everyone - students, teachers, administrators, and dinning staff and custodians - was a mentor, educated in academic disciplines and life's troubles and triumphs. Living with moody teenagers, they were Latin teachers, History teachers, English teachers - often willing to answer a random question and share a casual laugh. Dining hall meals were better than they ever were in college, and I now know I took that Saarinen designed architecture, artful campus, and smooth bus rides between campuses for granted. While I am a proud UPenn and Harvard graduate, I will always remember where it started. Aim High.
Cranbrook is the perfect place to build your confidence. With a variety of classes , you'll have the opportunity to develop skills you never knew you had. You can be your best self at Cranbrook.
Beautiful campus. Great teachers, academics, counselors. More attention could be given to the interior of the buildings (maintenance/modernization of facilities, less clutter). Funding for the performing arts/theatre is lacking.
I have gone to Cranbrook for nearly 8 years. I think it is an excellent college preparatory school. There is a huge emphasis community and collaboration as well as a challenging curriculum. There has also been an effort in recent years to bring more awareness to the mental health of students. As I mentioned before, the curriculum is challenging, which is good in a sense that it adequately prepares students for college, but it can be overly difficult at times. There are often times where there will be an assessment or a major assignment due in each class all within one week, on top of hours of homework each night. In addition to the curriculum, there are also many clubs and extracurricular activities giving students a chance to try new things, meet new people, and hold leadership positions. Definitely an overall good school
I dealt with a fair share of blatant racism at Cranbrook, including being called racial slurs amongst other things. I can only speak for myself though. Other black students might've loved their time at the school.
As a freshly appointed alum, I will say Cranbrook Schools is one of the best investments for yourself and your future success. After graduating and starting my college career, I began to seriously appreciate the wisdom and community that Cranbrook provided me. The campus, facilities for athletics, appreciation for art, and the common areas for students are absolutely amazing and non comparable to other educational institutions. I can confidently say that the qualities Cranbrook instilled in me will make a major impact on my future success.
The community is very well knitted together. The staff become family over time and connections are made that will last a lifetime. Also, the teachers will do anything to help a student improve their academics. Overall, the school is an absolute ten. I wish everyone could experience Cranbrook.
Cranbrook/Kingswood is a great campus, with teachers who care about their jobs and great green spaces. The workload is rigorous but manageable, and living in the dorms is mostly pretty positive. However, dorm life can be somewhat isolating, leading to further stress. There are counselors on campus somewhere, but I never learned where, and I never actually went because I never really felt like I had time/felt like going was going to be more important than studying. Another decently large problem with Cranbrook is that they seem to care about their image at least a little more than they care about actually helping their students. They refuse to install wheelchair ramps, because they would no longer be able to qualify as a historical site by some metric. A buddy of mine had to use crutches during the school day even though they should have been in a wheelchair, which is how I heard about the "historical site" obsession in the first place. Also, their theatre program is super underfunded.
As a member of Cranbrook Schools from pre-K all the way until graduating this summer, I am proud to say that I am a member off this community. The campus is amazing and all of the people here push each other to become better students. Classes are rigorous and they provide tons of AP and Honors courses to increase the difficulty of classes. I can say that I love this school and I can't wait to send my kids here in the future.
I feel so privileged to have attended such a prestigious school. The rigorousness of the academics helped me feel more than prepared for college. I honestly did not feel much of a difference (if any) between my workload at CK and my workload in college.
Not only am I thankful to CK for preparing me for college, but I am even more thankful for the memories and friendships created during my 4 years there. As I type this, I do wonder what my experience would have been like as a day student, but as a boarder, I loved sledding down Suicide Hill on snow days, drives in the Cran Van, movie nights in the dorms, participating in the Halloween costume contests, etc. Yes, there were some snobby, superficial people, but there were some down to earth people as well. I even met one of my lifelong best friends at CK.
Even though I did not fully appreciate my experience while I was there, I can honestly say that my time at Cranbrook was some of the best years of my life.

The teachers truly care about learning and have a strong connection to the students. The staff work hard to foster inclusivity and equality.
Overall, Cranbrook has been a loving and accepting home for me. The only changes I would make would be minor ones, such as handicap and wheelchair accessibility.

Its honestly a great school. Not just the classes but because of the environment. The teachers are so attentive and respectful. They are very understanding. They take time out of class/ teaching to make sure a student understands what is being taughtThe work can be a little demanding but thats fine for me because I need demanding. It makes me work better. The people are also very kind. Ive made a couple of friends and they are just wonderful. They made this new experience very easy. Everyone in the building is very welcoming, even the people that work in the dining halls. Everyone says ‘hi’ or ‘hello’ in the hallways. It has been such a lovely experience for my first year and I cant wait to see unfolds in the upcoming school year.
I love Cranbrook, and am extremely grateful for the opportunities I've gotten from going here. It truly is a special school.
Cranbrook has given me so many amazing opportunities. It has given me alumni and college connections I couldn't have gotten anywhere else. The theater program has given me a second family. My Cranbrook experience overall has been a great one.
