A message from Rebecca Morrisey, principal at Topeka High School: “The 2017 Trojans represent with excellence the traditions and diversity that is associated with Topeka High School. As a true microcosm of society, this class is truly prepared to step immediately into this next phase of their lives as leaders, problem solvers, and caretakers.
“These graduates have traversed these first 13 years of their education with excellence, leading the way with high academics, extracurricular excellence, and service to their school and community that will challenge those that follow. Organizations and post-secondary institutions have invested record-setting scholarship dollars in the future of this class and, therefore, in our community.
“Organized by a member of this graduating class,Topeka High School sponsored what was the first positive show of unity and respect following the elections in 2016, and they remind us all that it is our differences that make us strong. Their message was that we must always respect one another, even in disagreement, and that we must work together to find solutions that work for everyone.
“My heartfelt congratulations to this Class of 2017 — my first as principal. I couldn’t be more proud of a group of young men and women. It is a ‘Great Day to be a Trojan.’ ”
