Donald's Obituary

Donald Eugene Dietz found final rest at age 79 after a long struggle with COPD on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at his home. He was the husband of Peggy J. (Kirk) Dietz. He was born at his family home in New Park in Fawn Township, on April 14, 1944, and was the son of the late William J. and C. Genevieve (Kunkle) Dietz.

In his life journey he graduated from Kennard-Dale High School and entered public service with Fawn Township working on year-round road maintenance, then the Daniel B. Craig Corporation's satellite location in Winterstown delivering road oil for tar and chip road maintenance. He completed his public service at Springettsbury Township in York, PA, for a career total of 38 years. He truly enjoyed his retirement helping friends and neighbors and working in his workshop.

During his life he maintained his love for gardening and maintaining the cemetery and grounds of Prospect Church of Gatchelville (formerly Prospect UMC). He also served as a Trustee for many years, served on the Administrative Board, and helped as a chicken cook during their many years of chicken barbeques.

He is survived by his two children: Kelley L. (Watkins-Mann) Renoll (Jim) and Paul J. Dietz (Stephanie), and two grandchildren: Douglas M. Watkins and Cheyenne E. Dietz. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter: Melinda Rae Mann, and a brother, William H. Dietz. Other survivors include a sister, Elsie V. Channell (Norman), and many nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Prospect Cemetery Association, at 8 Orchard Road, New Park, PA 17352, St. Jude's Children Research Hospital, or any veteran's organization. A memorial service will be held in the future at the family's discretion.

He wanted to honor Mrs. Elizabeth Barton, his Respiratory Therapist, who faithfully watched over him during his long 6-year struggle with his COPD.

And so, by the grace of God, he has completed his faithfulness to His commandments and covenant of love.
