One of those niche old movies that our family always watched around Christmas that I found dreadfully boring until I was old enough to appreciate it.
It’s a strangely personal movie — Truman Capote and my late grandfather couldn’t have been more different as adults, but their childhoods as practical orphans in rural Alabama during the Depression were awfully similar. Watching this is the way we remember him around this time of year. I hope someone loved him the way Sook loved Buddy.
I’ve read a lot about and by Capote this year, too, which adds another dimension. Poor young Truman, locked in those hotel rooms for all those nights :(
