This lodge has the perfect location, literally one minute from the entrance to the Pilanesberg Game reserve. About 2 hours from Johannesburg airport, a pretty easy drive, but always better during daytime.

Large facility, friendly staff at reception, very nice rooms, with all amenities. Advise is to ask for a room that is not close to the generator, which makes an annoying, but unavoidable noise, 24/7. The 500 range rooms are both away from it, close to the pool and to the restaurant, but there surely are more good rooms.

The food is great, buffets, which I am not a fan of, all the way, breakfast, lunch and dinner, but in one word, perfect!

3 minutes from Sun City, if you like to go, through a kind of private entrance, get a yellow card at reception.

And for safaris, also great, as said one minute and you are in the park.

Anything to wish for? Yes: The pool area. It is spacious, pools is decent size and clean, but the service around the pool is far below you should expect. No one at pool bar for 3 days, hard to get towels, hard to get a drink or food. No clean up in the evening,(they apparently start around 9 in the morning) so next morning there are bottles everywhere, dirty tables and unorganised chairs. Very easy to do better!

Dear michel t, Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience with us on TripAdvisor. We truly appreciate all feedback received from our esteemed guests. I would like to extend my sincere apologies for the lack of service and cleanliness at the pool. Our Food & Beverage Manager has been made aware and will be taking the necessary corrective actions. In terms of the Generator noise, we have experienced an interruption in our electricity supply due to cable faults. I can assure you that the Generators are merely a back-up plan and usually we do not have this amount of noise on property. I am delighted to see that you enjoyed our location and quick access into the park, as well as our delicious meals. "The people of the Hippo" all look forward to welcoming you back to a more tranquil Bakubung soon. Warm regards

We did a timeshare swop and stayed at the resort for the past weekend. We stay at many different resorts during the year, but this was our first at Bakubung. Before visiting, I had tried to research the facilities and so I am writing this report to help fellow travellers. There are about 60 timeshare chalets arranged at a distance in a horseshoe around waterhole in the Pilansburg National park. Each chalet is private and ours had two seperate bedrooms each with their own en-suite bathroom. In the centre of the chalet is a large lounge and there is a small kitchen, The bedrooms and the lounge have large windows that open onto the reserve so you feel very close to the reserve. The build of the chalets and the fittings are of a high quality. The units are self catering but you can use the dining facilities at the hotel which forms the main part of the complex. For braaing there is a weber braai and a gas braai on the balcony. You need to bring all the supplies you need for your length of stay with you, as there are no shops in the complex for consummables and the closest shop is 9 km away near the entrance to Sun City. Because the resort is in a crater together with the reserve, cell phone signals are weak and data via the cell network is poor. However the resort has fibre which you can access via Wifi giving excellent data comms when close to the hotpoints in the chalets. There is DSTV with almost all the sports channels which was great during the Olympics. The wildlife exists very close to the chalets and we had a visit from three elephants that came within 20 meters of our chalet (separated by an electric fence). There is no dishwasher but the chalets are serviced daily. A gas heater is provided for the cold nights in winter. We were there in the middle of winter.
We enjoyed our stay very much and will be returning.

Had a weekend getaway from the city . Be aware that rooms on block 500 do not have a balcony where you can sit outside. It has a tiny 1meter area were you can stand outside and watch the screaming kids in the pool. Without a balcony you will quickly feel copped up if you were here for a longer stay . We were here one night, so not a problem
That's the other disadvantage of rooms in block 500 : Close proximity to the pool while you thought you were here for some peace and quiet and to enjoy the bush !
Room clean and tidy, high ceilings . Lovely linen on the bed

Buffet dinner is quite good for R 295 per person with good variety.

Dear EandK04, Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience with us on TripAdvisor. We truly value all feedback received from our esteemed guests. As you have mentioned, unfortunately not all of our rooms have direct views of the park or larger balconies with tables and chairs. Only the ground floor units in the 500 block have patios. Perhaps on your next stay with us you could request a room in the Eastern or Western block, where you will have patio furniture and views into the park. I am pleased to see that you thoroughly enjoyed our Dinner buffet and we all look forward to welcoming you back to Bakubung soon. Warm regards

This is our third visit to Bakubung Bush Lodge which has always been a pleasurable experience
We visit from USA and stayed for 5 nights as part of a family reunion. But we definitely won’t be back again.
Resort is very run down and disappointing this trip. Very lacking in cleanliness and experienced staff. We had half board as we usually do but after the 2nd night the food was boring and same most nights which was disappointing.
Some staff made me feel like they were doing me a favor if I asked for something. However there were some staff who were friendly and wanting to accommodate.
King room was not cleaned well and I was hesitant to walk barefoot on the floors.
Replenishing our room amenities was inconsistent.
Pool area was cluttered with left over foods and drinks all the tables with flies building up - I had to ask an empty handed waiter to please do some clean up.
Pool is way to small and cluttered for the price of the nightly stay.
My mom had a birthday while we were there and they promised they would arrange a slice of birthday cake but it never arrived (even after I asked 3 times). And had to remind Monica, reception staff and restaurant staff several times. In the end I left it.
Speakers in the restaurant don’t work and music is more aggravating than entertaining.
Game drives were the only highlight and we loved seeing the animals but we can stay at other resorts and get that same game experience with better accommodations. Sorry Bakubung!!

We truly value all feedback received from our esteemed guests as it allows us to improve on our service delivery. I would like to extend my apologies for the disappointing experience you and your family had with us during this stay and can assure you that immediate corrective actions will be taken, as this is by no means the level of service we aim to impart on our guests. I truly hope that your Mom was still able to enjoy her birthday and gift, in spite of not receiving the slice of cake as promised during dinner service. We all hope you are able to provide us with another opportunity in order to experience the best of Bakubung soon. Warm regards

Aircon was not working and we could not get the room warm especially Saturday night. The phone in the room was not working I had to call reception & restaurant with my cellphone while in the room. There was no hot water on Sunday morning when we left for our game drive. We found a job card in our room saying hot water was fixed at 10h08, my daughter took a bath at 10h40 when we got to the room and the water was just warm almost coldish,I took a shower shortly after her and I found myself wondering 'what reason would I have to spend 3200 for such discomfort' when I have comfort at my home.

The restaurant did not have variety of food, we had wings Friday night and they were very bitter, tasted like the BBQ sauce had burned but did not smell burnt. I did speak to the chef Saturday after being utterly annoyed with the menu, I do however understand her reasoning and can live with it. She offered us another small bowel of spaghetti bolognise which tasted very nice.

Sunday morning breakfast service sucked alot but menu was OK.

The best thing about the saty was the Game Drive. Lizzy gave one of the best game drives I have had and my daughter enjoyed it, she saw all the animals she wanted. Thank you Lizzy. The game drive was very blessed.

This resort is located on the edge of Pilanesberg National Park and is easy to access. The luxury rooms provide a quite and peaceful rest and serene exploring and relaxing during the day.
The food is simply wonderful with too many options. The most picky eater will enjoy the feast. The food explorer is sure to find new tests to savor. The bar has some very good local options.
The game drives are staffed with courteous and knowledgeable drivers. Try to sit in the front 1/2 of the game truck if you want to hear the drivers commentary as these large trucks do not have a speaker system.
The national park is full of indigenous animals and you are sure to see many species wether you take one of the scheduled game drives or drive on your own. The big 5 are in the park but we only saw 3 on one game drive and 1 on the other drive.

Overall, you will enjoy this resort.

I find most resorts lacking in info on the timeshare parts of hotel resorts.
From Randburg it is a just over 2 hour drive ....watch out when you get into NW province as lots if stop streets have speed humps!! There is a Superspar and petrol station enroute about 10 kms from the resort.
On arrival at the gate you do not have to pay for your Pilanesberg permit.Only pay at the lodge.Book8ng in is painless and they adhere to Covid regs.
You can get them to assist with unpacking your car but we did not see the need.
The two bed sleeps 6 with a twin beds in one room and a king size bed in the other.Main has bath toilet and washbasin the other has shower toilet and wash basin.
The kitchen has all the essentials including a big fridge freezer.Oustide you have two kettle braais One is gas the other charcoal
In our chalet we hasmd a portable gas heater and fans in the bedrooms and main living area No aircons.
TV and DSTV . WiFi was excellent and you get 20480mb for the week free

Staff very friendly and rooms were clean

There is a restaurant but can't comment as we brought our own food.

To summarise excellent service clean and everything you would want for your holiday

Bring your own water bottle ......if your room water bottle finishes then you won't be provided with a fresh water bottle unless until you BUY it. How can a family with 2 adults and 1 child can survive with 2 nos of 500 ml water bottle. They want you to bring your own water bottle because they don't want you to drink their water. Pathetic service and behaviour upon asking for a couple of more bottles of water in the room.

Don't depend on them for water.....rest everything is good, the game drive was too good. Fooding options not many if you're vegan or vegetarian.

We visited Bakubung lodge from the 31st December 2021 to the 7th January 2022 the chalet we had room 209 was dirty the carpet filthy even on our stay the lady that cleaned our chalet took 5 to 10 minutes to clean daily thats how terrible the place is.

For a place with so many rooms with one swimming pool is also bad,no kioski to buy things medical items we had to drive out to buy some àllergy medications due to dust in bedrooms carpets that are dirty ,insects falling from the roof. The worst choice we have ever made for our family holiday
