Anthony Hopkins is an award-winning actor who is known worldwide for his decades of performances, but some may not know that his wife Stella Arroyave is a Hollywood talent in her own right, despite starting in the industry later in life. Arroyave and Hopkins have been married since 2003, and she has been a fixture in the latter half of his career. Hopkins began his acting in the English theater system in the 1960s. His theatrical debut came in the Academy Award-nominated The Lion in Winter where he plays Richard the Lionheart.

Since that role, Hopkins has appeared as such memorable characters as Frederick Treves in The Elephant Man, Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs, and Odin in the MCU. Anthony Hopkins’ roles have seen him become a horror icon and a winner of two Academy Awards for Best Actor to go along with four more nominations in acting categories. Even Anthony Hopkins’ lesser-known roles are impressive, and his TV parts have been roundly acclaimed, particularly his starring role as Dr. Robert Ford in Westworld. While Stella Arroyave has not had quite the career of her husband (most haven’t) she still has had a successful and ongoing experience in the industry.

Who Is Stella Arroyave (And How Long Has She Been With Hopkins)

Stella Arroyave has been married to Hopkins since 2003. Arroyave is Hopkins’ third wife after Jennifer Lynton whom he was with from 1973-2002 and before that, Petronella Barker who he was wed to from 1966-1972. By Hopkins’ own account, via The List, he was "shut down" and "dealing with depression" when he met Arroyave in the antiques shop she worked at in 2001. Hopkins and Lynton had been separated in all but name when he met Arroyave and they both quickly fell in love, marrying in 2003 after Hopkins’ divorce was finalized in 2002.

Born in Popayán, Colombia in 1956, Stella Arroyave grew up in New York City planning to be a lawyer but eventually decided she wanted to pursue acting and moved to Los Angeles where she found some work but picked up antique dealing along the way, via Variety. After marrying Hopkins, Arroyave became more involved in the entertainment industry in a variety of roles.

Stella Arroyave Is Also An Actor & Director

Since 2003, Stella Arroyave has produced and acted in three projects. She first appeared in a small role in The Human Stain. In 2007, she produced and starred in Slipstream, a film written and directed by her husband. Arroyave then went on to write, produce, and direct Elyse, a film starring her husband as Dr. Lewis in a twisting and hallucinatory tale about a doctor trying to get through to his patient. It serves as an interesting complement to Hopkins’ similar film The Father.

Stella Arroyave also announced in her interview with Variety that she was working on a documentary about her husband. She has shot footage in Wales, Hopkins’ hometown, and interviewed several industry veterans including Oliver Stone, Jodie Foster, and Ian McKellen. Conversations with those who knew Hopkins growing up have already illuminated some aspects of Stella Arroyave’s husband’s early life, and it should prove to be a fascinating look into a talented man through the eyes of someone who may now know him most intimately.
