Katy Waldman New Yorker Even more than the book, the show is obsessed with how people change, remake, and imprint on the material they cherish. Dec 12, 2022 Full Review Dan Einav Financial Times For all the horrors of the premise, you can't help but be comforted by a series driven by the faith that humanity's creativity and kinship will always endure. Rated: 5/5 Feb 1, 2022 Full Review Anita Singh Daily Telegraph (UK) It asks us to think about big questions - the importance of community, memory, shared history and art. Rated: 3/5 Jan 30, 2022 Full Review Serena Seghedoni Loud and Clear Reviews Station Eleven is a clever, insightful show that has a lot to say about the meaning of life, and it’s absolutely worth a watch if only for the haunting worldbuilding and excellent acting on display. Jul 31, 2023 Full Review Jennifer Bisset CNET Station Eleven is a uniquely optimistic end-of-the-world story that ticks every box. Mystery, full characters, danger, moral decision making and a classical music soundtrack. Give this one a crack. Mar 30, 2023 Full Review Sarah Ward Concrete Playground The ideal show for right now... a lyrical, heartfelt and character-driven apocalyptic musing with an immediate difference. Moody C Some artsy, creative moments but overall boring and way too much going back in time and then present. Just a total destruction of story timeline so if you hate that, you'll hate this series. In the end, you'll realize there really is no conflict and whatever remnants of conflict are quite silly and self induced by the characters. Just been looking for some good end of world streaming but just got a bunch of characters playing neurotic actors. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/28/24 Full Review Kevin K It’s bad. Notice that many positive reviews don’t actually analyze the show because it doesn’t hold up to scrutiny. It’s downhill after the first episode. There are many characters, but few are properly developed and you end up not really knowing or caring about the majority of them. Few stand-out acting performances. The story – an acting troupe performing Shakespeare to a paucity of survivors after a pandemic – beggars belief. It ignores the realities of the hardships of a post-apocalyptic world, instead painting a landscape of frivolity. I felt devoid of tension or interest and gave up after 5 episodes. From what I’ve read, I watched 4 episodes too many. I recommend instead “The Last of Us.” Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/23/24 Full Review George K great cinematography, but horrible and childish story. Not sure if I wasted my time. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/24 Full Review Gareth v A slow-burn that pays off big time. It's non-linear style is frustrating at first, but as the pieces fall into place, it becomes a well-rounded piece of story-telling. It's a refreshing change from your typical zombie or dog eat dog apocalyptic arc thats we always see. This is a poignant, hopeful and heartfelt take on what is a grissly, dire and uncertain scenario. One of 2021's best shows. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/24 Full Review Kevin H This show is rotten. A heavy-handed display of PC-focused representation with low quality dialogue and sub-par character development. Pretentious, boring, unbelievable, and annoying. Can't stand this one. Really, really bad. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/21/24 Full Review Aldis H "I never liked this recording. I recorded it two months before my father passed away. That's all I think about every time I play it. The whole thing just dies when you try to capture it. It's like it happened, then it ended, and then, that's it." As if this is profound. I was the diametric opposite of moved, unlike the actor who responds to this dialogue, who seems shaken and moved. I was laughing. This is excruciatingly bad writing, and where this show ended for me. I tried to read the book and it's borefest central. And here we are in the show with dialogue no one would ever say, that makes little sense, if any. It's just there to seem poetic, but lives firmly in the realm of hackneyed. Not much worse writing than fake emotional heaviness. The book is filled with this, and so is the show. I tried, I really did, but this is some of the worst stuff I've ever tried to get through. The book, the show, both terrible. "Don't mistake lack of talent for genius." One begrudging star for the vanishingly small amount of originality.
