As with any college, the experience is what you make of it. UCLA just presents a lot of diversity in terms of the experiences that you can have. You can get your party fix in on Thursdays at frat row, kickbacks through cultural or professional organizations, or even a warehouse rave in the Arts District. Academically, there are plenty of opportunities for research and internships. It can be difficult to get into certain classes until you are in your 3rd or 4th year, though. Living on campus is really helpful for finding friends and the food is definitely a blow-out compared to other schools I've visited. Only downside is that housing in general is expensive due to the area, so you'll likely be sharing a room and living on a budget!
It was amazing! I came to UCLA as a 3rd year transfer student meaning I had more perks than some of those who came in as freshmen. The housing I did off-campus apartment dorms which was amazing. They are like luxury apartments with plenty of space for roommates with open kitchens and fully furnished. The campus has a strong sense of community and it's easy to find friends and people you can connect with both in and out of your majors and initial interests. The college town Westwood is built against Beverly Hills and close to Rhodeo Drive, meaning it's not uncommon to spot a celebrity here and there. The local theaters host recarpets and UCLA students are often given entry to the premiers. the professors in my major (Art History) were some of the kindest and most interesting people I will have the pleasure to meet. My only issue is the workload, if you get overwhelmed easily, it's not the school for you. The quarter system is a monster for any major.
Attending my first year at UCLA I came in nervous, anxious, and excited. Nobody in my family had ever gone to such a big institution before. I have 2 roommates who were picked at random, and that was the best choice I have made. We did not know each other before our first day together, but now we are all best friends. I like how welcoming everyone has been. Professors and TA are eager to meet students and do what will benefit them the most. I love the community UCLA has fostered and the support faculty gives to the students. The change I would like to see is how school officials responded to peaceful protests. It was very disheartening to see police on campus attacking students and threatening them for peacefully protesting. In the future, I hope to see school officials deal with situations better and look out for their students more rather than keep their status amongst the elite.
