Key stats

Millot hails from Northern France, a region known as a hotbed of footballing talent, but spent his early years just outside the historic town of Chartres around 90 kilometres from Paris. The young Millot began his footballing journey at local sides Étoile de Brou, FC Chartres and FC Drouais.

Monaco's well-regarded youth academy lured Millot to the south as a 15-year-old talent, and he soon made his mark at the place that has produced the likes of Chelsea's Benoît Badiashile, Yannick Carrasco (formerly of Atletico Madrid) and Paris Saint-Germain's Kylian Mbappé.

Millot made five appearances for Monaco's Youth League side in 2018/19, scoring one of two goals in the competition in a 2-0 win at Dortmund in the group stage. The path to first-team football would prove to be a difficult one in the principality, with nine appearances for Monaco's reserves the following season paving the way to three brief showings in the Coupe de France and Ligue 1 in 2020/21.

With big names such as Cesc Fàbregas, Aleksandr Golovin and Aurélien Tchouaméni also competing for playing time in central midfield under current Wolfsburg coach Niko Kovac, Millot appeared on the radar of Stuttgart under their policy of targeting promising young players.

Millot had already proved his accomplishment at youth international level, after all, earning over 30 caps for France U16 and U17. He was part of the Les Blues side that made the semi-finals at both the European Championship and World Cup at U17 level in 2019.

A knee injury and spot down the pecking order restricted Millot to six brief appearances in his first season for the Swabians, 2021/22. An assist for a late Chris Führich equaliser in a 1-1 draw against Wolfsburg in April showed a glimpse of his promise, though.

Millot increasingly gained playing time as Stuttgart endured a tumultuous 2022/23 season, and he saved his first goals in Bundesliga action for the best possible time - a brace in a 3-1 win in Hamburg in the promotion/relegation play-off that ensured his side's top-flight status.

He continued his growth into a Stuttgart shirt with apace at the start of the 2023/24 campaign, with a brilliant burst and finish to wrap up a 5-0 win over regional rivals Freiburg on Matchday 3 followed by another strike against Darmstadt on Matchday 5.

Millot's creative talents were a big part in the staggering surge of form that took Stuttgart up to third place as the Bundesliga resumed in January 2024, and the club hierarchy rewarded Millot with a new contract dated to 2028.

Although having started his career as a deeper central midfielder, it has become apparent in Stuttgart that Millot's comfort on the ball and eye for a neat pass is better deployed in an attacking midfield role like Leipzig's Spanish playmaker. Both players have a slender physique but the agility to pop into pockets of space between the opposition lines to become a key attacking fulcrum.

Did you know?

While at the Monaco academy, Millot's dreams of making the big time saw him work as a ball boy for the Ligue 1 outfit and collect players' shirts when he could. A 15-year-old Millot boasted of having shirts from Rony Lopes and Fabinho.

He has taken the step as a very young player to becoming a dependable performer." - Stuttgart sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth on Millot's contract extension in January 2024

"We have a top team, a great coach and we have been very successful recently - that is why I want to stay at Stuttgart." - Millot himself on his contract extension
