PAGASA Says Amihan and Easterlies to Bring Rains in Several Areas

PAGASA LATEST UPDATE – The state weather bureau reported that two weather systems will bring rain over parts of the country.

On Monday (February 12, 2024), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. The shear line and easterlies will affect the country’s weather conditions.

PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina reported that the shear line will affect the eastern section of Visayas. The shear line and easterlies will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Eastern Visayas, Capiz, Aklan, Iloilo, Bicol Region, and Romblon.

Possible flash floods or landslides are expected in these areas due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

“The shear line, which is the convergence of cold and warm air, will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over parts of the Bicol Region including Romblon, as well as in other parts of Visayas particularly in the Panay Islands, and also in some areas of Eastern Visayas,” Badrina said.

The northeast monsoon will bring cloudy skies with light rains over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, and Quezon.

A large part of Mindanao will also experience isolated rain showers and thunderstorms caused by the easterlies and localized thunderstorms,” Badrina added.

The easterlies and localized thunderstorms will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over the rest of the country. Flash floods or landslides are possible during severe thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, the coastal water condition over Northern Luzon, Central Luzon, and the eastern section of Southern Luzon will be moderate to rough. The remaining parts of the country will have moderate to rough surrounding sea conditions, according to PAGASA.

About 4.5 meters of waves are expected over Northern Luzon, Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, and Visayas seaboard.
