The Masked Singer: Everything we know about the second season

It had us all singing "Who's that behind the mask?" during the first season, and shouting "Take it Off" every week.

Well, now The Masked Singer is returning to Saturday nights on ITV, starting on Boxing Day at 7pm. Across eight episodes, the panel will try to guess the identities of 12 celebrities dressed in wild costumes.

It's arguably the weirdest singing competition to have ever hit TV screens in the UK - where else can you watch celebs dressed as anything from a seahorse to a grandfather clock singing on stage?!

Sadly this year we'll have to do without the hilarious and totally over-ambitious guesses from American comedian Ken Joeng. (No Ken, it isn't Michelle Obama or Princess Beatrice.) This year British comedian Mo Gilligan will be replacing Ken on the the judging panel.

The full line-up has finally been revealed by ITV.

One of the characters appears to be a green alien in a metallic dress, long braided hair and gold bug eyes, while the other is dressed as a portion of chips with a sausage face.

Yep, you read that right!

The second series will also feature a Grandfather Clock, described as "the original Tik Tok", who will be making "every second count on stage".

Badger will debut wearing full motorcycle leathers, Seahorse will hope to impress the panel with their glittering outfit. while Bush Baby will debut wearing a yellow babygrow.

The new line-up also includes the many-eyed Blob, Robin, Harlequin and Swan, a bearded Vikings and a multi-coloured dragon!

Ken has said he is "gutted" he isn't able to come to the UK for filming - it's because of coronavirus travel restrictions that are currently in place.

He said: "I had so much fun on season one of The Masked Singer UK, I told the team nothing short of a global pandemic would stop me from coming back for season two!"

"I hope when things start to normalise I can return and offer my expertise on all things British, like the Australian Open," he joked.

The other three judges are Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross and Rita Ora.

As well as a new judge coming on board, other expected changes include socially-distanced audience members and judges.

The first series proved to be a massive hit, drawing in millions of viewers every weekend.

It saw lots of celebrities - ranging from footballers, to politicians, to world-famous singers - whose identities were cleverly hidden by crazy costumes, battle it out to be crowned the champion.

Each week some of the singers would present a video with some "clues" about who they really were, before performing live. Then the judges would have to try guess who was behind the mask.

As the series continues, there are sing-offs when the audience can vote for who should stay in the competition.

The person voted out each week takes off their mask so we can see who was singing all along.

Former Girls Aloud member Nicola Roberts nabbed the top prize as Queen Bee last year.
