This Alan Shapiro called my daughter asking her yesterday about forms she already submitted. Which he lied and said he didnt have. Then he lied and said he sent her to his Doctor, which the family is listening on speaker phone as she tells him, No! You never sent me to yours, but in an email, he forgot he told her to go to the original surgeon. I raised her well. My daughter says she can tell he is unprofessional, and unorganized, because he has none of his facts together, and constantly has inaccurate info with those under 5 minute conversation. I'm not clear who referred her to him, but it's obvious, they do not have to do much thinking in this "field" of law, because the clients do all the work. I know this much, Have your facts together when you call my daughter, because in her line of work, she KNOWS a LIAR!!! I told her based off the history of horrible reviews, you may not see a dime. Definitely ineffective counsel.

Represented by Alan since 2016. I did most of the work like going after the broomstick from the witch. Had to go to Chicago got reimbursed 10 dollars for the trip to get the federal exam done. Cost me over 700.00 that trip. Kept trying appeal calls and trying to get an award. Had 3 good doctors and a licensed Physical Therapist assist me versus three bad doctors one Paul Cederberg who has hurt many with their cases and he was the one to break a tie between the doctors for my case as a referee doctor in which he signed for me the paper work, didn't look at my foot, signed my own name and above that checked I didn't need help with my foot breaking meaning doing malpractice since I was supposed to sign all papers and sign my own signature and would have checked yes needing assistance with my foot. The attorney did nothing to go after cederberg at all and his son the younger attorney has been rude to me when bringing this up. They kept doing appeals after I got a lousy $884.00 one time payment for my case in which they got the attorneys 20 percent of it for a lousy 1% disability rating. They appealed and another doctor from Central America said because I can walk on one foot I do not need assistance. They kept after this and me losing over $3000.00 in care that I got and initially accepted and then not accepted in which I was wage garnished and they wouldn't help me because they said it was local but it is still a federal all with my case. I got yelled at by his son when asking about they wanting me to get another impairment rating because I can not afford to go back to Chicago a second time and after all of this Alan Shapiro wrote to me and stated if I could got to Chicago to get the impairment exam that would help. After awhile I asked it could maybe work. His next message, can you get to the rating exam and you will need to pay for this yourself this time. That exam costs between $5000.00 to $8000.00 I said I could not afford the exam and I have not heard from him or the firm for months now. I have been with him since 2016. I still live in pain. He could have went after and got this cederberg in trouble. He could have done more than me doing all the exams and all alone even with their hearings and calls for appeals. Stuart C. Rinehart

I like Mr. Alan Shapiro but his son Geoffrey Shapiro is a very rude and unprofessional lawyer. He doesn't know how to represent or defend a client. I was telling him about how I felt about my appeal and he got very angry and repeatedly told me that how dare I insulted him and he hung up the phone on me while I was still talking. Do not waste your time with this lawyer he is not going to help you. He is a very intimidating human being. I feel bad for his father.

Was a big waste of time. Son is a real a-hole. They did several telephone appeals for me and lost every one. I fired them and did written records appeal on my own. It sailed right through. Judge even hammered OWCP for not following rules and trying to force me back to work with lies. Do yourself a favor and try on own by having a records appeal. All Shapiro wants is your award. They do crappie work and don't care about your health at all! If you do eventually need lawyer go somewhere they really care about your health.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
