The dedication of every team we call the "Dream Team" is exceptional. In the management of the career of the represented artist we are delighted with the digital system offered. For those of us who came from a previous training in business management, we give a note 10. The professionals at the Agora Gallery demonstrate a very special humanist side besides deep knowledge and study in art. Being recognized by the Agora Gallery conveys the message that we are in the right place: The Temple of the Arts. Being represented by the Agora Gallery is something difficult to write. - vagabondgingerAlicante, Spain1,251 contributionsWe were staying at the hostel on the UWS so took the 1 train to 79th & Broadway to see this Banksy on the DSW building before walking on to the American Museum of Natural History right in this same area. I have been a follower of Banksy's work for some time and a couple days later we went to the Banksy Exhibition: Genius or Vandal in the city that we bought tickets for thru Fever. That was an amazing exhibition altho it is unauthorized by the artist himself. Really explained a lot about the symbolism of his art.. My family living in the UK also really know Banksy's work as well. It inspired me to buy the book on Amazon written by the artist called Wall and Piece. This past weekend was a little off-putting, however, because we had a strange interaction with an employee that was working the retail level on the ground floor (the area with all the handbags). My daughter was looking at a carry-on case and barely touched it when a sales woman marched over and barked that we should ask for help (there are no "do not touch" signs anywhere, FYI). This "lady" also was quick to tell us that the price of the bag was $20K; the subtext of course being that she presumed we couldn't afford it. So bizarre and so unlike the other professionals that work at Sotheby's. I guess there's a bad apple in every bunch, so I won't dock Sotheby's for this one unpleasant person. The American in Paris exhibit featured several modernists whose work is less known but very interesting; interesting, too, is that the GI Bill after World War II permitted veterans to do their university work in Europe. And many artists, as they have for a couple of centuries, gravitated to Paris. Some of the works we liked the best included pieces by Kenneth Noland, Haywood Bill Rivers, Jean Dubuffet, Joan MItchell and Beauford Delaney. But there's something here for everyone. - Matthew JNew York City, NY18 contributionsI was looking for something to fill a lonely Saturday evening and Fotografiska felt like a good bet. I paid the $31 to enter (which did feel a little pricey) and made my way to the 5th floor to work my way down the building.
Floors 5 and 4 were both dedicated to animals (read pets) and different ways in which they permeate our daily lives. Different photographers told their stories in different ways, from playful, to funny, to sad. My favourite photographs were by a photographer called Martin Parr, who described his collection as "anti-propoganda"; depicting the real side of life with pets with a level of humour and honesty.
Floor 3 was an entire floor dedicated to Frank Ockenfels, which was more of a parade of just how many celebrities the famous photographer has worked with. For this reason, his works were less relatable, and therefore less interesting in my opinion.
All in all this place is worth a visit. - Sarah LBirmingham, UK21 contributionsI went searching for this after reading some of the reviews on this website. It was quite hard to find and we walked straight past it the first time. It is located on a chain link fence at the corner of 7th Avenue and 11th Street.
We spent at least an hour reading the tiles and their beautiful messages after 9/11. If you are visiting NYC, this is THE place to go to whether you are serious about art or serious about having a good time around some awesome art. Well designed gallery, courteous and fun bartenders, servers and door men/women, eclectic and classy guests and most of all talented artists painting right in front of you while collaborating on their work with you. The creators Anthony and Adriane are extremely hospitable to each and every guest…you feel like you’ve known them forever. They are also super passionate about what they do so much so that their energy is contagious. Their unique concept hooked me from the first time I attended and made me come back the next two Fridays to see the piece as it evolved over three weeks. Previous artists are frequently on hand mingling and answering questions personally about their artwork created right here.
Tickets are very reasonable and the free drinks and party snacks are definitely a plus (hard to get anything for free in NYC these days). If you are visiting NYC and want to have an enjoyable night out while getting a taste of some great artwork from artists around the globe or if you just want to make new friends in an intimate, non-pretentious setting, you simply HAVE to check them out!
