As Olympic medalist and reality T.V. star Bruce Jenner makes headlines for his involvement in a deadly crash, some remember back to the tragic 1976 accident in Canton that claimed the lives of Jenner’s younger brother Burt and his girlfriend Judith Hutchings.

Jenner had come home to Canton three months after breaking the decathlon record at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal. He was being hailed as the world’s greatest athlete and secured promotional deals left and right.

A local car dealer let Jenner use a Porsche during his stay, according to the Daily Mail.

Burt offered to fill up the car that was low on gas and picked up Hutchings who was in high school school at the time.

The car crashed on Old Canton Road and both were thrown from the vehicle. Both would later die, according to an article in the Morning Record.
