South Riding, a large, master planned community built in the 1990s, was designed for convenience and home variety. Realtor Lisa Smith with Pearson Smith Realty, LLC, describes the area as one that has a little something for everybody. “There are condos and town houses, as well as single-family homes for first-time buyers and luxurious estate homes,” she says. At the lower end of the price range, you can find one-bedroom condominium units starting around $375,000, including some with garages. Four- and five-bedroom town house units may go for between $575,000 and $700,000. You’ll also see stunning brick colonials, many of which were built in the 2000s, that are fetching around $1.2 million.

Several Loudoun County Public Schools serve the students of South Riding. Cardinal Ridge Elementary School, rated A- by Niche, has an active parent teacher organization that hosts annual back-to-school and bingo nights. Students at Mercer Middle School can take guitar and chorus classes in addition to core subject areas. The school recently started a chapter of the National Junior Honor Society for eligible eighth-grade students. John Champe High School boasts an A+ rating from Niche. Here students can take regular academic coursework, choose classes in the fine arts and career and technical education, and select from extracurricular activities in the areas of anime, robotics and rocket building.

South Riding also offers variety in terms of recreation. “There are 11 miles of hiking and biking trails in the community, in addition to pocket parks and several tennis courts,” Smith says. You can play a round of golf on the championship course at South Riding Golf Club, a semi-private club that features a practice facility and offers private lessons. “There are also several pools in the community, and you can swim at any of them,” Smith says.

You can start your day at First Watch, a popular spot for breakfast, lunch and brunch. Then, meet friends for dinner and drinks at Social House Kitchen & Tap. South Riding offers many options for dine-in and take-out such as Mehak Indian Restaurant, Kirin Asian Café and Velocity Wings. Smith notes that Moe’s Southwest Grill is known for its great fast and casual food and commitment to the community. “They often partner with the local schools to raise money for clubs and teams,” she says.

Grocery shopping is a breeze in South Riding, as residents have access to Giant Food and Harris Teeter. “Tall Cedars Parkway goes through the community, which is very helpful for getting around to area businesses,” Smith says.

She also notes that it’s common for residents to commute to Tyson’s Corner and Reston, and many others drive to Chantilly for work. “Every now and then I meet a client who drives into Maryland a couple of times each week,” she adds. South Riding offers residents excellent public schools, variety in home pricing and style and plenty of amenities. Locals will tell you it’s a place with something for everyone, so there’s sure to be a place here for you.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process. A decent place for kids but plan on sitting in traffic no matter where you go thanks to a developer owned board of supervisors on Leesburg. Live in this community if you don't mind being ignored by the county since you're too far away for Leesburg for them to care. Plan on traffic getting worse dur to unlimited building of townhouses because money is everything here. Enjoy dealing with an overbearing HOA full of arrogant morons who like to throw around their power just because they can. Be sure to ask your HOA for permission to move a bush or replant a tree or get fined. Enjoy hearing your neighbors belch because you're pretty much right on top of them. And be prepared to deal with petty nonsense because the stay at home mom army enjoys making disasters out of non-issues since it's the only excitement they can find. And good luck finding any green space around here.

This is the hottest and most up and coming neighborhood in all of Northern VA. The homes are nice, the parts are plentiful and clean. Golf courses galore.

We just got over 40 more police officers in out county alone. The police are always around if you ask me, and even the smallest incident at lest five cop cars show up. There is more of them then needed, but i rather be more safe then not feel safe.
