Sophie Butcher Empire Magazine Gorgeously shot and featuring a stellar young cast, The Chosen One’s friendship dynamics are instantly charming and compelling — but its supernatural elements take a while to warm up. Rated: 3/5 Aug 16, 2023 Full Review Joyce Slaton Common Sense Media They feel like real friends with lived-in relationships, and they each get enough screen time for audiences to empathize with their struggles. Rated: 4/5 Sep 5, 2023 Full Review Hernán Ferreirós La Nación (Argentina) As often happens with adaptations whose creators aspire to renew contracts for several seasons, everything moves at minimum speed... [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 3/5 Aug 22, 2023 Full Review James Delingpole The Spectator Though it gets off to a slow, slightly messy start, this is a series with bags of charm, some delightful performances, a gripping plot and lots of local colour. Aug 19, 2023 Full Review Joel Keller Decider The Chosen One takes a bit of time to get to the heart of its premise, but the ride there is made easier by the chemistry between the members of the friend group and between Luhnow and Agron. Aug 17, 2023 Full Review LaNeysha Campbell But Why Tho? A Geek Community The Chosen One's biggest problem is that it is trying extremely hard to be mysterious and grounded and it downplays itself and its supernatural premise. Patience is needed to get through this series, even if the latter half keeps you engaged... Rated: 6.5/10 Aug 17, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Peter K Beautifully filmed, amazingly well-acted by a remarkable cast; this was definitely worth the watch! For a Christian this might rankle some and inspire many more. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/06/24 Full Review james o the tv adaptation of american jesus brings miracle to the fan. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/24 Full Review Max C K The first break in my career came when Everardo and Leopoldo Gout hired me for The Chosen One writers room. For a show with a style, voice, and vision as unique as the Gout Bros', it was invaluable to see how passionately they worked with other writers, all while honoring the integrity of Mark Millar's graphic novel. Capturing their singular tone and point of view never meant singularly generating ideas, this was a room where the story was king and the best idea won, no matter who it came from. Everardo and Leopoldo showed me that while writing TV can be ultra challenging it can also be fun and rewarding, long hours can still be memorable ones, and collaboration is the best part of the creative process. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/27/23 Full Review James L I like this sort of stuff so I'm biased. I like the way its filmed, the characters are played well and it has a charm and also epicness to it. An intriguing retelling of the story of Jesus or Jodie as he is called. I hope it can get a second season. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/08/23 Full Review Martin S I watched the entire series except for a little bit of episode two. I was mesmerized, drawn into each scene and full of dread and excitement at different times. The composition of each scene was stunning, all the details and lighting captured the mood. Surprises arose throughout the series and even at the end. There were very few moments in which I said, "I knew that would happen" . There was never a moment in which I thought this was enough. It is a "must" that you watch until the credits roll at the end of the last episode. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/06/23 Full Review Pete W This was such a slow series and the first episode didn't really draw you in to any resemblance of a storyline. The first episode was brutally slow and the only thing that saved it was its so so cinematography. The cast and acting were great and it had a lot of potential but it drags out far far far far too long. It's disappointing and I wish I had that time back Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/17/23 Full Review Read all reviews
