Enjoyed the professors but lacked the student life I was hoping for. Portland is a great town for entertainment!
The food is not very good and there is not much variety or nutritional value. The campus is absolutely beautiful but almost dead on the weekends. I personally loved my dorm I lived in Kenna but some of the other dorms have terrible ra’s, varying amounts of hot water, unreliable washing machines, and thin walls. The social scene is lacking entirely with too much emphasis put on student athletes. All the professors I’ve had were dedicated and truly interested in helping every student succeed.
I have thrived at the University of Portland. Not only does this school give me a well-rounded education, but all of the professors and staff are incredibly supportive. There isn't as big of a social life as I would've wanted, but I have made some excellent friends, found my spot in the music program, and feel set up on a path to success. The only thing I would change is the cost. $72,000 is way to much for this school. We could easily pay less money per class.
An excellent college! Our son is a Junior at University of Portland—the culture is kind, community oriented, scholarly. The professors are engaging and approach their students with curiosity, care and encouragement. Class sizes are small and teaching is done by only professors.
There’s a new state of the art Engineering building that levels up their depart to top tier, impressive! The campus is stunning—old brick buildings with massive green areas to walk and cherry blossoms in the spring. We appreciate the large nursing program too and feel it creates a caring culture on campus. Don’t let local Portland societal issues curb your enthusiasm either, you’ll find this is occurring in many towns in the US. Students often stay on campus, they have one cafe with views and one modern one with outdoor fire pits. Great dorm life! No Greek culture here so less partying on campus. Many non religious students go here—pastors are friendly, non judgmental and there’s a growing LGBTQ community.

Everyone at the University of Portland is very welcoming, and friendly to new faces. I was nervous at first coming to this school, but I actually was able to make a few friends during my first week. One of those people I met during my first week is still my best friend to this day now at the end of my junior year.
I have experienced great transformation and enrichment during my time at the University of Portland. My career and personal development have been greatly impacted by an all-encompassing approach to education, academic excellence, and a supportive community. The notion that the university is committed to providing a comprehensive, all-encompassing education is astonishing. My academic writing improved as a result of the study abroad and service learning opportunities that broadened my perspectives and deepened my experiences. I was in a nurturing environment where I felt appreciated and inspired to fulfill my potential because of the small class sizes, compassionate teachers, and strong emphasis on teamwork.
The University of Portland is a great University. The liberal arts education design they have has been very rewarding for me so far in my time here. I have had some good, and some amazing professors. The campus is beautiful, and Portland has a lot to do. My main issue with the University is the way they have handled some political, religious, and human rights issues. Being at a private, Catholic university, some of the faculty are practicing Catholic. There have been a few instances of insensitive comments from individuals who work for the school. However, the response from the student body has been inspiring. The students here have a great community. Overall, the University of Portland has given me a great experience so far.
The university is a solid private school, and is for the most part what I thought I was getting into when I graduated high school and chose UP. However the amount of professors that take their job seriously I can count on one hand. Most of them just cut class early because they have no material prepared. The classes in my undergrad (communications) seemed experimental in the sense that they had absolutely zero factual material. It was as if the professors made up what was correct or not and had no ability to explain why, especially in the capstone class, which was a joke.I will say that I am now an MBA student with focus in marketing and the classes are much more instructive.
Lastly the student life is so heavily monitored that the school loses a lot of what college should be. P safe cares more about ending partys, and giving out as many tickets as possible than they do about serious college safety concerns. WARNING, UP’s PARKING LOT SYSTEM IS A COMPLETE MONEY GRAB SCAM.

So far as a first year the University of Portland has provided a welcoming and comfortable environment. It is a small campus and being able to recognize people I have met over time has helped me to really feel part of the community. The housing and dinning is nice and I have even had the opportunity to learn more about the history of the buildings, meet donors, and tour the amenities in depth. This has helped me to understand how the school functions and my place in it. As a woman of color I have felt safe on campus and in the surrounding area but I would like to see more representation in faculty and other positions of mentorship. However, I can say with confidence that this is a place where I can step up and be that person of inspiration to others.
University of Portland has a small, active, and connected community. Classes are relatively small and most Professors are well engaged and available. However, certain STEM professors I've encountered are confusing and difficult graders. Housing is easy to achieve, but some dorms are much better than others (i.e has heating/cooling, warm water, larger rooms, etc).
I think UP is a great school with lots of good majors to choose from. The campus life is great and you still get a small school feel. I would reccomend the school to anyone looking for a smaller school that still has a social scene and good facilities.
The University of Portland stands out for its academic excellence, small class sizes, and commitment to the Catholic and Holy Cross tradition. With a beautiful campus in Portland, Oregon, it offers a strong sense of community, diverse opportunities, and robust career services. The focus on ethical leadership ensures students receive a well-rounded education, preparing them for successful careers and a purposeful life.
I loved going to school here. It is a smaller school but there is still lots to get involved in. The food is great if you're getting a meal plan. Dorms are a mixed bag, some old and unappealing, some brand new and incredibly nice. Regardless, the vibe in all of the dorms is usually great. I always felt safe and supported here. Courses are challenging but there are lots of support resources. The party scene is small but enjoyable. Not much in walking distance of the school, which is hard considering freshman aren't allowed to bring a car. It would be easy to bring a car and park in the neighborhood, tho. Lots of off-campus housing options.
The University of Portland is known for its reputable nursing program, offering a solid foundation in both theoretical knowledge and hands-on clinical experience. As a freshman nursing major, I found that there's a rigorous curriculum that covers the basics of nursing practice, including anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and introductory nursing courses.
The university emphasizes combining classroom learning, laboratory work, and clinical rotations to provide a well-rounded education. Professors strive to create an engaging learning environment, and the program typically encourages student involvement in practical experiences early on to build essential skills.

I liked how the student to teacher ratio was small so I got to connect with my professors on a deeper level. I also liked how the teachers respected the students time and effort. I also liked how easy it was to go to office hours as well.
The University of Portland is a beautiful campus, the community is so wonderful, and I always feel welcome. The teachers are very supportive, and there is a small but diverse campus body, I feel like I can find my people on campus. This is such a lovely school, and I appreciate all it has done for me.
The University of Portland is a predominantly white institution (PWI). So, as a person of color, it is difficult to find many people I relate with. However, the institution talks about their plan to work on that and overall, I believe there has been improvement when compared to how it was when I first enrolled as a freshman. In other words. I believe they are put in effort to make their school welcoming for different kinds of people. Shoutout to President Kelly!!
University of Portland is a good school. The campus is very beautiful and there are always things that you can do here. There are a lot of resources.
The school overall is really nice, you can make your college experience however you'd like it to be. School spirit is present and the people are awesome. Can feel a little small at times but there are positives to that, really easy to get in touch with your professors. The outdoor programs are awesome and the student jobs are really great.
The campus is nice, the classes are small, and the professors are very involved with making sure each student understands the material.
