Hi, can’t seem to find the info online. Can i use this prepaid simcard in my mobile wifi device? My phone is locked to my local network.
There is no technical reason for the SIM card to not work on mobile Wifi devices. Whether your specific device will work with it is another issue.
For instance, do you know how to set the APN on the device? Portable WiFi routers are notorious for firmware issues, especially if you want to use a device purchased from a different country.
I do know how to set APNs and such, but you have a point about the device incompatibility.
In Sydney, they are able to restrict which SIM cards work on Mobile WiFi devices, so I was trying to find out if HK does this as well.
Here in the Philippines, you can use any SIM for the pocket wifis.
Because of the concerns you brought up, I'm going to go with renting a pocket wifi from Song WiFi at the airport. Only 17usd for 5 days for unlimited 4G!
Yes network operators can restrict their SIM cards from working with certain devices through IMEI (serial number) filtering. But the tourist SIM shouldn’t be one of those.
