“Don’t bet against the fat boy” - Nikola Jokic has a message for everyone that called him fat

Jokic hasn’t let winning a title change him at all, and it’s safe to say he will be hungrier than ever to keep the Nuggets atop the mountain when he returns to action next season
Nikola Jokic’s hilarious reaction to winning NBA Finals with Denver Nuggets

Nikola Jokic

Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets coasted through the 2023 NBA Playoffs to win the first title in the franchise's history. The Nuggets lost just four combined games on their way to the championship, and much of that was due to the strong play of their superstar in, Jokic, who firmly cemented himself as the top all-around player in the league with his postseason performance. Jokic took home Finals MVP for his efforts against the Miami Heat as well and had a simple, hilarious reaction to what he accomplished this season.

"They didn't believe in the fat boy, and it seems like it worked out. Yeah, don't bet against the fat boy." - Nikola Jokic, ESPN

Even a championship hasn't changed Nikola Jokic's mentality

Jokic remained laser-focused throughout the Nuggets' playoff run, never relenting in his belief that there was more work to do. He was willing to admit that they had achieved their main goal only after Denver finally sent Miami packing. And in the aftermath of winning the game and the title for the season, Jokic hasn't seemed totally overwhelmed by the moment. Sure, he's happy to have won, but he's managed to put his first championship victory into perspective remarkably fast, considering all he did to get the Nuggets to this spot.

Jokic's goofy, somewhat nonchalant attitude often makes him come off as a bit unappreciative for what he's done, but it's clear that he is thrilled to have won, even if it doesn't seem like it at times. Basketball isn't everything for Jokic, but it's clear that he is very, very good at it. The Serbian star center will take some time to process the incredible accomplishment he just partook in, but once it's time to return to the floor, expect Jokic to be hungrier than ever to get the Nuggets back to the top of the mountain.
