1995 - 2004Elected Mayor of Tagaytay City for three (3) consecutive terms
In the 1995 general elections, Senator Tolentino ran unopposed as the Mayor of Tagaytay, where he served for a period of nine years between 1995 and 2004.
2001 - 2004President, League of Cities of the Philippines & Executive Vice President, Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines
During his years as Mayor of Tagaytay City, he also served as the President of the League of Cities of the Philippines and Executive Vice President of the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines.
2010 - 2015Chairman, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority
Then Mayor Francis Tolentino was chosen to assume the office of the 9th chairman of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA). He was the first and only non-resident of Metro-Manila to serve in this post.
2017 - 2018Presidential Adviser for Political Affairs
In June 2017, Senator Francis Tolentino was appointed by former President Rodrigo Duterte as his political adviser from 2017-2018. He became the president’s main troubleshooter during crises, disasters and emergencies.
2019 - PresentSenator, Republic of the Philippines
Senator Tolentino was elected to the Philippine Senate in the 2019 elections with 15,510,026 total votes. Senator Tolentino is currently serving as a Senator of the Republic of the Philippines until 2025. During the 18th Congress, Senator Tolentino chaired the Committee on Local Government and Committee on Urban Planning, Housing, and Resettlement. He was also the Vice-Chairman for the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations. For the 19th Congress, he is the Chairman for the Committee on Accountability of Public Offices (Blue Ribbon).
