The CSI franchise is going to remain a part of CBS moving forward, even with CSI: Vegas coming to an end. However, the next series will be coming with a big change by venturing into the unscripted space.

Per Variety, CBS has announced a new docuseries called The Real CSI: Miami. The true crime series takes inspiration from the first CSI spinoff series, CSI: Miami, which ran for ten seasons from 2002 to 2012. The Real CSI: Miami will chronicle real-life crimes that occurred in the Miami area, detailing how they were solved without the help of David Caruso's Horatio Caine. Also announced is the show's premiere date, which will be on June 26, 2024.

CBS Had Hinted at More CSI Programming on the Network

The announcement of the docuseries comes days after it was teased by CBS bosses that more CSI content was coming to the network. Many fans had cried foul when it was revealed that CBS wouldn't be moving forward with Season 4 of CSI: Vegas, but the network's president of entertainment, Amy Reisenbach, teased that the network would bring back CSI in an "interesting" way.

CSI: Vegas' cancellation doesn't just affect the CBS show. The lack of Season 4 is a significant setback for the future of network TV crime dramas.

“We definitely think that franchise is alive and well,” Reisenbach is quoted as saying. “We’ll continue to be in discussions. It’s a part of our legacy as a company and yes, I think that ultimately we’ll find different and interesting ways to bring the show back.”

Pointing to the continued popularity of the brand with past episodes streaming, CBS CEO George Cheeks added, "In addition to CSI being such a global hit and all the iterations, two of the strongest channels on Pluto TV are CSI channels.
