Some pretty awesome entertaining gory fun to be had here, as a monstrous cyclops terrorises the Roman Empire, gets captured, and is turned into a gladiator to be let loose in the arena for the entertainment of the bloodthirsty masses!
And Eric Roberts plays the Caesar !!
If you want a Rome with like only 50 people and a cyclops that’s essentially a tall guy with plot relavent super strength then boy do I have a film for you.
Hilarious how you can be in both Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight and this movie (in the same year no less). Anything for a paycheck I suppose?
But seriously, even as "so bad it's good" fare, the novelty wares thin halfway through. Made even more anticlimactic with the cyclops being little more than a plot device, rather than an actual antagonistic monster.
The Rise of Cyclops… is the fall of Rome!!!
My friend and I had just watched Jess Franco’s Diamonds of Kilimanjaro before we put this on, so in comparison to that, this felt like a fucking wild ride.
Remember that troll from the first Harry Potter movie? This is kind of like if he had his own movie where he fights gladiators in Rome. It’s obviously very stupid, which shouldn’t come as a surprise considering that it’s directed by the guy who directed Sharktopus as well as Wrong Turn 3, Wrong Turn 4 and Wrong Turn 5.
I have to say though, this doesn’t have that overly ironic tone that many of the 2010’s SyFy movies had. It’s played rather seriously, which makes the atrocious CGI stand out even more. I might be going insane, but I thought this was fairly entertaining.
In other words, best movie ever made
