A man convicted in the suffocation killing of a 74-year-old woman was executed by lethal injection here early Tuesday. Edward Ellis, 38, died four minutes after authorities injected a lethal combination of chemicals into his arm, Texas Department of Corrections spokesman Charles Brown said. In his final moments, Ellis called his prosecutors “SOBs.” Ellis had been on death row since he was convicted in September 1983 for the March 1983 killing of Bertie Elizabeth Eakens. Eakens suffocated when a pillowcase was tied around her neck during a robbery of her apartment.
