You can get the Scared Hearts & Fallen Angel for around $20. An OG Pittman of Grevious will cost you over $30

No offense man, but is that a hill you're willing to die on? I definitely agree on the bonus tracks, The separated Hickory Wind is exquisite.

Rick Nelson would like to buy you a beer once you get to the great beyond. :D:D

  4. The Anthology is great if you can find it.
The best songs from his stints in The Byrds, Burritos and solo albums.

No, I'm not suggesting the OG vinyl right out of the gate. Get the GA/GP 2-fer for a few bucks, a Gilded CD, and the '97 Sweetheart remaster with the Gram vocals as bonus tracks, total expenditure about $15 and you're getting all the prime stuff.

The Flying Burrito Brothers compilation is really a twofer of the 2 Gram Parsons albums with the Burritos.

Do you know how closely it compares to the original A&M vinyl? (Or most older CD reissues, for that matter.)

I bought the Intervention reissue of Burrito Deluxe first and didn't like the ways they'd 'improved' the sound at all. Too much bass, dull sounding pedal steel... So I canceled the matching Gilded Palace. Not sure whether I should have or not, though.

Kevin Gray mastered both reissues but there was apparently a 3-year gap between them.

I didn't get Burrito Deluxe because I didn't feel it was worth the expenditure. Yes, the bass is huge on the Hybrid layer but works better on the DSD layer. The difference might be due to the equipment I use when I listen to each.

Twofer is worth tracking down. As others have said Grievous Angel is marginally better than GP, but both are great. Gilded Palace of Sin by the Flying Burrito brothers is also a great album. I have this on a twofer with follow up, Burrito Deluxe, which is solid enough, but not in the same league. As regards his work with the Byrds, the red box set (“There Is A Season”) features some tracks with Gram’s contributions restored. I believe the black box set is more Gram-focussed but I haven’t heard it.

I started with the GP/Grievous Angel twofer cd, then got every scrap I could get my hands on. Really wish that Rhino would make the last 2 10” releases available again. They were gone by the time I heard about them.

And Hot Burritos is a 2 disc set with those on disc 1 and disc 2 is their third album without Gram plus a lot of other things. To be honest it's not a step down from Burrito Deluxe.

Happy that I got OG vinyl copies of GP, GA, GPOS, and BD shortly after getting back into vinyl several years ago, because the prices have become a bit inflated for clean copies. But to me they really are still the best way to hear this stuff.

Ok, you guys are persuasive! Off topic but I have to ask…..to those who love the cd’s: do you have really expensive DAC’s? Expensive cd players? If you look at my profile you can see where my modest system lies. At this point I feel like my lps sound so much better. But maybe I need to invest in the cd side of things component-wise to take advantage of the affordable cd’s out there.

anyone happen to know anything about the 2007 GA Lp’s?

Hot Burritos is mastered pretty brightly. For that reason, probably my least-favorite presentation of that material.

No! Check out my gear profile. Most of my listening is done that way. If something doesn't sound good with that, it won't sound good on expensive gear. You can't polish a turd. Most of Gram's stuff was very well mixed to begin with.

As you can see I'm not an audiophile. My ears are like an alcoholic's liver.

If any one hasn’t read Twenty Thousand Roads by David Meyers, get it now. Fantastic book. Very well written and balanced portrait of Gram and his times.

    I concur.
This is a great watch as well. They talk to most of the main players in Gram's life. Chris Hillman is much more gracious here than he has been in other interviews. Much more gracious than he should be perhaps.

Thank you for the recommendation! I’m hoping to go to Nashville next year and see the Nudie suit.
