Yule Mae Davis is a 45-year-old African American maid who works for Hilly now . She is friends with Aibileen but doesn't really like Minny. Yule Mae is later shown in the Holbrooks' dining room. Yule Mae tells Hilly and her husband, William that her twin boys both graduated from high school on an honor roll. She and her husband has been saving for years to send her boys to Tougaloo College. They're about $75 short on one of the tuitions. William leaves, wanting to know nothing about it. Hilly stays. Yule Mae tells Hilly that her family are faced with having to choose which son can go if they don't come up with the money. She asks Hilly if she could have a loan and that she would work everyday for free until the tuition was paid off. Hilly tells her that she's in debt. Yule Mae walks away with dishes but Hilly stops her. "As a Christian, I'm doing you a favor." Hilly says, smiling. Yule Mae looks at Hilly, having hopes in her eyes. "See God don't give charity to those who are well and able. You need to come up with the money on your own. Okay?" Hilly says, doubting Yule Mae. She leaves the dining room.
A few days later, Yule Mae vacuums and finds a ruby ring behind the sofa in the living room and puts the ring inside her apron pocket. The next day when she and Aibileen gets off the bus, two white police officers see Yule Mae and arrest her.

Yule Mae begins to resist and screams to Aibileen to give her purse. The two police officers slam Yule May down hard on the back of the trunk of the police cruiser. One of officers pulls out a billy club and strikes Yule May on the head. Yule May goes limp. She is later shown in jail with a bunch of other black women and reads The Help. She reads a line from the book and howls very loudly as well as the other black women. This is the last time Yule Mae is shown.
