An iconic house on Sullivan’s Island that’s been a well-known landmark on the beach is being torn down.

The owners of the round circular house, sometimes referred to as the wedding cake or sandcastle house, at 3209 Marshall Boulevard began the demolition process Wednesday.

Patrick W. Marr, Managing Member Sullivans Point, LLC, said while the building looked good from the outside, the inside had been exposed to the elements and animals and was not salvageable.

“The unique feature of this house is the lot. While most oceanfront houses have one facade facing the water, this house will provide three sides of water views. Furthermore, the house is not behind the maritime forest that is now on most oceanfront homes/lot on the Island that restrict views. We will be bringing the house to market in 60 days to sell to a prospective buyer, who is truly looking for a unique property, on one of, if not the best lot on the Island,” Marr said.
