Fragen, was eigentlich die „Filmgrößen“ wie Guy Pearce („L.A. Confidential“, „Memento“)
Super grim Australian true-crime film. Worth watching for the incredible performance by Ruth Bradley as Caroline, truly a powerhouse performance by her. This is a really sad piece of Australian history right here, and I like that the movie tackled the issue of severe mental health deterioration whilst telling the story and didn’t just follow the true-crime formula.
A very intense and disturbing retelling of the true of story of Rachel Barber. Rachel was a 15 year old girl from Australia who went missing March 1st 1999. Story concentrates on two families and how the action of one girl changed both families' lives. Lots of great performances by some of the most famous Aussie actors (Guy Pearce, Sam Neill). Ruth Bradley as Caroline steals the show as she is absolutely astonishing. Her role reminded me of Kathy Bates' Oscar winning role in Misery. One moment Bradley makes you feel sorry for her, and then she scares the crap out of you. A well done movie but not a fun movie to watch. A 3.5 star movie...but Bradley's performance is a 5.0.
A hard movie to rate. First of all, the music choises really makes the movie feel kind of cheap, and in the end, it's the acting that saves In Her Skin from being another bad "based on a true story"-movie. Sure, the story is good. Terrible, but good material for a movie, that is. But a great story does seldom make a truly great movie on its own.
The focus being mainly on the murderer and the victim's parents, made it a little bit more interesting. But also a little bit confusing. At times it's much easier to sympathies with the murderer (Caroline), and the girl that falls victim to this woman with extreme low self-esteem seems shallow in comparison.…
Tasteless, sensationalist, disrespectful piece of shit. For it to be based on the actual murder of a 15 year old child and THIS is the movie they made, they really should be ashamed.
The one star is for Ruth Bradley giving it her all.
A beautiful 15 year old girl goes missing, the desperate parents start searching for her, an investigation begins, we meet a disturbing young woman named Caroline, I mean, she's all kinds of fucked up. We meet her parents too, they dont know how to deal with her problems, she used to babysit the missing 15 year old girl. Told from different points of view, its a disturbing true story from Australia. Miranda Otto and Guy Pearce are heartbreakingly good and Ruth Bradley steals the film as the fucked up Caroline.
The first act of this unorthodox mystery regarding the disappearance of a teenage girl isn’t nearly as effective as its second and third (although Guy Pearce has an extremely impressive moment of vulnerability when he has a complete emotional breakdown in one scene), but once it kicks into high gear there’s no letting up. Pearce and Miranda Otto do solid work as the parents of the missing girl, and Ruth Bradley is deeply disturbing in her role as the neighbor and former babysitter who we get to know in a more intimate way as the film progresses. Sam Neill is also as reliable as ever as her father, who loves her but doesn’t seem to know quite what to do…
this was very unsettling and even more disturbing knowing that this was based on true events
