In one of his first film appearances since his highly publicized and contentious divorce proceedings, Johnny Depp steps back into the spotlight. But it's not in the type of role you might imagine. In his first French-language acting role, Depp takes on the role of Louis XV, the 18th-century King of France, in this new French costume historical drama, for which an official U.S. trailer has been released.

"Jeanne Du Barry" is written and directed by French actress/filmmaker Maiwenn (Polisse). She also stars in the title role of Jeanne Du Barry, a real-life French peasant woman who uses her wit and charm to rise to the highest echelons of society, ultimately becoming the mistress and closest confidant of King Louis XV (played by Depp).

"Jeanne Du Barry" premiered last year at the Cannes Film Festival to mixed reviews and is now set for a U.S. release next month through Fathom Events. Audiences can catch the film in select U.S. theaters starting May 2nd.
