After following the farm on Facebook since a few years, we decided that it’s time to see Hall Hill Farm with our own eyes. It was a great day out, the team is so friendly and welcoming, the farm is clean and all the animals can be seen up close, some can be fed and stroked. Plenty to do for young children but even for adults, feeding lambs and Highland Cows is enjoyable. Farmer Richard and his team made us feel very welcome. I have nothing negative to say and would definitely recommend a visit.

This place is a real find! Informative, interactive and a great way to get a real feel of how life would have been back in the day. Our group ranged from 11-47 and we all enjoyed it. The only negative I would say are the staff who were so miserable, unwelcoming and uninformative I’m not sure why they bother turning up for work. On scanning our tickets the lady at the desk had ample opportunity to tell us that the access to the HMS Trincomalee was only at specific times, that the cafe was closing soon and that the shop and whole place closed at 4pm. Instead we had to keep going back to ask questions and on leaving we’re met with disdain as she had to unlock the door for us to leave. We felt very embarrassed but having opted for the 3pm ticket slot we didn’t realise that there was only 1 hour to see it all! Our mistake for not checking closing time but disappointing to be treated like we were a nuisance when we just wanted to enjoy the visit which we had travelled 2 hours for!

We spent a very enjoyable afternoon here. Lots of different 'rooms' with various and varied planting. Enjoyed comparing our vegetable gardens with the crops here. Found the original buildings of interest and sheltered from the showers in the second hand book shop before continuing our walk. A little uphill part at the beginning of the gardens , not too taxing . and then more or less, level walking. But we found the cafe less than excellent!

My wife and myself are currently holidaying in County Durham staying at the lovely Walworth Castle (Review to follow) and today visited another one in Durham!

It is not difficult to find (ie opposite Durham Cathedral) but - as the Castle is now the home to 180 University of Durham (whom own the Castle) - can only be visited by going on one of the 4 daily organised Tours - tickets for which can be purchased (£4.50 for Seniors) at the nearby Booking Office.

The Tour itself was well presented by another Durham University Student but - with so many of her fellow students fortunate enough to reside there - I found the range of attractions rather limited (ie the Dungeon has now become a Social Club). Even so, it’s still worth visiting but don’t do so with raised expectations!

We visited today, two adults and a five year old. We were SO impressed! The ship was outstanding, as were the reconstructed shops and workshops. The Fighting Ships exhibit was really amazing, and utterly fascinating. I’d say the Fighting Ships exhibit might need a warning for younger visitors. Our little guy is quite brave but even he found it a bit frightening at points. The cafe was reasonably priced and did what we wanted it to do - a nice enough lunch! The Horrible Histories exhibit was AMAZING, especially the air cannons, as was the play park. The highlight of our little boy’s day was seeing the cannon being fired, and then later watching the pistol firing from the upper deck of the ship, which he and I went onboard twice! We spent 5 hours there, and only had to leave because we had to get home! We wholeheartedly recommend this museum, and thoroughly enjoyed it!

A truly wonderful sculpture/statue of a WW1 Tommy. Looking into the face of this sculpture was quite emotional, it said so much and the artist clearly put his heart into it.
The Tommy was commissioned to commemorate the First World War centenary and is very awe inspiring. I was amazed to learn from a passerby that the townspeople raised over £100,000 so it could be kept in Seaham.
It's over 9ft tall, was created by local artist Ray Lonsdale and is entitled Eleven O One '1101'.
The whole area is one of memorial and truly stunning.

A short very scenic and peaceful walk down both sides of the River Wear. Walkers are able to not only get some spectacular views of the river, occasional wildlife, Castle and Cathedral, but also stop for coffee break at one of a number of excellent coffee houses at the Milburngate Bridge end.

Some great views of the beach and the marina. The slopes/steps down to the beach and marina are quite steep so people with poor mobility may struggle a little bit. There are toilets and cafe/ice cream parlour in the marina. There can be seaglass found on the beach if you look around and several statues for point of interest pictures.
