      Season 2 – NYPD Blue

      1994 Crime Drama List
Reviews 100% Audience Score Fewer than 50 Ratings This Steven Bochco-produced series pulls few punches in portraying the day-to-day lives of cops in New York's 15th Precinct. Characters' personal lives intertwine with the cases they work, which often deal with the worst elements the city has to offer. Many characters came and went during the show's 12-season run but one constant throughout the series was Det. Andy Sipowicz, portrayed by Dennis Franz. Johnathon W Superb sophomore seasons that builds on the brilliance of the first season while moving forward after Caruso's departure. The elephant in the room is the casting of Jimmy Smits as Det. Bobby Simone, who replaces the departing David Caruso. It helps that Smits plays him as a different character, less bombastic with more a quiet dignity, anchored by the fact he is a widower. He gets great support from the rest of the cast, especially Dennis Franz, whose Det. Sipowitz remains one of the great characters of TV, while Kim Delaney makes a nice debut as Det. Diane Russell. Behind the camera, the show runners deliver another gritty crime show that also builds on the character's personal lives (Sipowitz gets engaged and married by the end of this season). Overall, fantastic season that established the show for the future. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/24 Full Review dave d NYPD Blue may have been the best crime drama of all-time and season two was a year of transition for the fledgling show. Led by Dennis Franz and his ability to have chemistry with anyone, the sophomore season doesn't miss a beat. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews
