Biography

Rutgers men’s basketball welcomed in Cam Spencer for the 2022-23 season as a transfer from Loyola University Maryland. A 6-4, 207 lb. guard from Davidsonville, Md., Spencer joined the Scarlet Knights with two seasons of eligibility following his junior season in the Patriot League. Has earned the reputation of the ultimate competitor around the locker room.

Spencer excelled in his first season 'On the Banks', sharing the team-lead with 13.2 points, shooting 43.4 percent from the field, 89.5 percent from the free throw line and 44.4 percent from the field. 

2022-23 Season (At Rutgers): 
  • Named Big Ten Co-Player of the Week on Jan. 17
  • Tied for team lead at 13.2 points per game.
  • Shot 43.4 percent from the field, 89.5 percent from the free throw line and 44.4 percent from the field. 
  • Had 105 assists and 69 steals.  
  • Shot 43.4% from three-point distance, tied for 5th in a single-season in RU history
  • Shot 89.4% from the free throw line, 5th best in a single-season in RU history
  • Had 69 steals, 6th most ever in a season by a RU player 
  • Scored in double-figures in 24 games.with five games of 20+ points. 
  • Scored 17, 18, 15, 17, 19 and 18 points in first six games with the team as starter, averaging 17.3 points per game in that span.
  • Had six steals in the season opener
  • Made game-winning three-pointer with 14 seconds remaining in victory at No. 1 Purdue
  • Again hit game-winning three-pointer in final minute, along with season-high 23 points on career-best six made threes in win at Northwestern.

  • Had 22 points at Wisconsin, 21 at Minnesota, and 22 in the NIT against Hofstra. 
2021-22 (Junior): 
  • Spencer was named to the All-Patriot League First Team and the Academic All-Patriot League Team after a 2021-22 season where he averaged 18.9 points-per-game, 4.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists. 
  • Spencer shot 46.8 percent from the field and 35.3 percent from three-point range last season. Spencer led the Patriot League Conference in points, steals (2.3) and minutes-per-game (37.0).
  • Spencer was second in the conference in free-throw percentage (85.8), eighth in assists per game (3.2) and second in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.4:1).
  • His 556 points rank 17th in school single-season history, and his 208 field-goals made are 14th
  • His 68 steals are tied for fourth in school history.
  • Scored 28 in the Patriot League Quarterfinal at Boston University.
2020-2021 (Sophomore):
  • Played in the season’s final five games, starting the last three, after missing the first 12 due to injury.
  • Averaged 10.2 points and 4.4 rebounds per game to go with 3.0 assists.

    2019-2020 (Freshman): 
  • Named to the Patriot League All-Rookie Team...Played in 23 games and made nine starts. 
  • Was second on the team with 10.0 points per game and led the Greyhounds 3.13 assists per game.
Personal: 
  • Son of Donna and Bruce Spencer.
  • Has two brothers, Pat and Will.
  • Honor roll student at Boys’ Latin.
  • Father, Bruce, received his master’s degree from Loyola. 
  • His brother, Pat, was a four-time All-American lacrosse player at Loyola, winning the Tewaaraton Award as the nation’s top player as a senior in 2019 when he also set the NCAA’s all-time record for assists.
  • Pat played basketball at Northwestern as a graduate transfer in 2019-20 and was second on the team with 10.4 points per game.
